Beastfeast Aug 8th to 10 Bonnet Rouge on the Gatineau River
http://www.bonnetrougerafting.com/
It is time to start thinking about the Beastfeast for this year it will be similar to last year the club will provide the meat, baked potatoe, and corn on the cob with the fixings. Club members can bring salad and or deserts to share. Remember everyone has to bring their own dishes and tableware.
For those of you who haven't experienced the Beastfeast we camp at the last rapid at Bonnet rouge I have attached a link to their website for maps and directions. I also spoke with the owner and the no acochol policy is only for those going rafting. If some people want to organize rafting it is possible there is also a great beach and good swimming for those family members who just want to camp.
The Gatineau run is very similar to the main channel on the Ottawa big pushy water huge waves and some of the best rapid names like Lucifers Anus.

I had this in another thread but I have moved it here:
OK so I am going.
I have been to gatFest but only to the school. Never paid attention on the bus trip as I get motion sickness as a passenger.
So I need to know where exactly the put and takeout are.
I am leaving this thursday night and will most likely be off the grid until I get to Beastfeast as I will be paddling on the Gull fri - sun, Ottawa mon - thu, fri who knows, Gat sat/sun and then home.
Are people going up friday night to camp?
Are we meeting at the takeout 1st which I think is the camping spot?
Who thinks I am ugly?
What time are we meeting on saturday?
Do I really have to bring my camera?
Are we paddling only wearing togas?
Am I the only token boater?
How much should I charge to carry peoples water bottles and lunch?
Will there be a wet T-shirt contest?
Will there be a speedo wearing contest?
Will there be a best Helmet Hair contest (Annie)?
-
Hey ... I really need the details on whats going on as I will most likely be off the grid come this thursday night until I get to gat 9 days later.

Hey Colin,
The deal is this year to bring your own breakfast gear and food for both breakfast and lunch. The Bonnet Rouge restaurant-snack bar burned down this spring! Breakfast is at Bonet Rouge camping site, though you can go early in the morning to Maniwaki, about 10 minutes away to have breakfast at one of the local restaurants. Lunch is on the river, bring your own food. Supper Saturday night is courtesy of the CdB, part of your membership fee. Camping and put-in and take-out will be about $35 for the whole weekend.
Hope this helps,
Paul

Thanks Paul but I need to know are we meeting at Bonnet Rouge on saturday morning first and if so what time.
Or are we meeting at the putin first and if so how do you get there and what time?
-
We usually leave from the campsite at around 10am, so you could meet us there or at the put-in, say 10:30am max.
Paul
-
ok ... i will meet you at the campground 10am.
I will most likely go up there fri night to avoid the hassles of an early morning drive.
That way I will have my gear all together and ready to go.

I missed last year's beatfeast due to a wedding.
But I recall that there was a raft with the group and that they were looking to fill the raft with people.
This might interest one or more of my daughters.
Will we have something similar this year?

Hey all!
This year, I definitely want to go! As usual, being such a dependent car-less loser, I'd need a good soul to help me get there. Of course, gas+beer+food shared more than fairly! Is there someone close to Sandy Hill who would have room for me and my gear? That would be great!
BTW, what better advertisement for BeastFeast 08 than this great photo from last year by Ray, which was published this summer in Rapid magazine:
https://www.rapidmedia.com/onlineissues/rapid/v10i2/full/08.jpg?
In case you haven't seen it, it's worth checking, empty beer bottles etc. and all.

Steph and I are going to try to make it on Friday night too.

Louis, you'd have to call Bonnet Rouge and ask about the rafting. Last year I arranged it, but this year I'll leave it up to you... I don't even remember the ladies name, but you can click on this link to get info http://www.bonnetrougerafting.com/

Going up on Saturday morning instead of Friday. What time are you leaving the campground?
-
http://www.3200lakes.com/
10-20 are normal summer flows, and at 40, the town of Maniwaki is flooded - the level is right in between those two points... (it's at 30)
Caution should be taken, rapids should be scouted. Your normal lines may not exist at this level.
-
Is anyone leading the trip comfortable with these flows? Graham are you not planning on attending?
-
I haven't paddled it at this level, so i'm not an authority. Just stating that low summer flows should not be expected for the weekend.
It's been suggested that, for example, the normal center line by the log jam on "Bete de Corbeau" doesn't exist - sneak river left on the other side of the recirculating hole.
Expect the unexpected.

Well I am heading up this afternoon and will not have internet access.
Can we just make a safety judgement call and move the venue to River Run and have fun on the Ottawa for saturday / sunday?
I am leaving my dads place in Petawawa around 2pm and will check the board before I leave.
Colin
Note: since at RR I will be going there early saturday morning.
-
I am 110% cool with moving it to RiverRun for safety reasons. I really want to run the Gatineau, but not if the level is too foreign to most in attendance.
I would rather have a great run down the Middle than start walking lots of stuff on the Gatineau because eveyone lacks confidence/knowledge of the river at these flows. Based on Graham's breakdown, it is running at almost double normal flows.
What are others thinking? I willl be away from my computer until this evening, but will check it out then and meet up with Beastfeast on Saturday morning.
Colin I will call you tonight to see where you are at if there is a divide on which river to run.
Cheers!

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Due to the extremely high water levels we have decided to move the Beastfeast to the OTTAWA RIVER at RIVERRUN. The Gatineau is running at flood levels and may exceed 30 feet on the gauge this level is listed as expert on the website. I apologize for the inconvenience but the safety of our members is paramount. The format remains the same but could all club members please phone their paddling buddies and let them know.
For any further info you can call me 613 295-2046. Darryll

What time are we meeting at River Run for the paddle tomorrow??
Sandra
-
What time are we looking at going?
-
10am should be good for most (let's say at the river run gates).
If you're early or later, it's easy to set up shuttle weekends on the Ottawa.
The key thing is to all use the River Run takeout.
-
I will be there at 10AM. I hope that we can all meet up together as this would maximize the fun times this weekend. See you at the RR gates at 10AM.
Colin, call me if you are not going to meet us at this time since Steph and I definitely plan on paddling with you! 613.324.2462
Cheers!

Hey All, since I hadn't heard back until now, I have made plans to arrive for around 10:30 a.m.
Hopefully I will catch you guys...if not, Ray and Heather and Heidi and Dom said they'd watch for me...
Sandra
-
I had planned on an early run...to be there by 9:30. If someone else wants to go early then I'll meet you up. Otherwise, I'll tell my carpool buddy that I'm coming an hour later.
Please tell me if you want an early run.

Yeah, like I'll be on time. See you at 10:30.

Okay so I still haven't hit the sack. No one should meet me at 9:30. I won't be there. 10:30 is it.

Kelly and I made it for Saturday and had a very successful day!
Stayed long enough to enjoy some of the beast feast and good company!
Make sure you don't drive to the Gatineau for nothing as the group is based off River Runner on the Ottawa.
Water level was at around 14.5, great fun in McCoy, surfing Angel Kiss, riding through Lower No Name.
Paul, Grahame and I even enjoyed a joint triple surf on Upper No Name.
Also of note is the many firsts for Tibor, yesterday!
For me, my most successful day on the Ottawa for me; surfing everywhere, punching Sattler (NOT following Paul), a good run through my nemesis; Little Trickle.
Sorry; no swims, no heli, no lost boat, no sordid story to tell...at most; a 360 ender in Lower No Name...
Just good progress.
Have fun today, guys/gals!!!
