This past Friday afternoon the weather was just great.
Dr.Christian took a break from his students and we went to visit the BYOB wave.
The wave was pretty steep and required to stay at the crest of the wave in order for my longer kayak not to dive the nose in.
My stomac muscles got a got workout. Way more fun that a trip to Good Times.
Still a fairly shallow spot, but, noone was complaining.
We weren't even cold changing back in civilian clothing.
Britannia gauge was somewhere between 3.12 to 3.14.
At that level, the reactionary is nicely formed and it is easy to slide in from just behind M&M, ride the reactionary and hop onto BYOB.
Christian got to try surfing with his new used kayak.
He also wanted a few pictures to prove to his students that... that... well I don't know what.
Hopefully Christian will share the incriminating evidence...

Well, it was a bit of a last minute affair, I was done teaching at 13:00...
Launching into the water, I paddled in front of the water outlet from the yacht club: in there, below the tiny waterfall was something orange, bobbing up and down... My heart almost stopped: could it be the unmistakable Wavesport EZ orange? Could it be Cl?o's that had magically appeared up there? Na. Just a painted pumpkin Halloween. The silly thing had been stuck there for two weeks (and probably still is)! I saw Louis attempting to rescue it, to no avail. Maybe it's just that orange things want to stay in rivers...
There are even bleachers for the crowd (well, a small crowd)! I did verify that it was pretty shallow there, adding one more scratch to my helmet. I had nothing to keep my head warm nor did I wear anything for my hands, it was so nice that day that I was quite comfortable anyway. So we might have another few days to enjoy one wave or another before it gets too cold (if it does).

Hey Chris how do you like the new boat?
-
The boat is great. And so light! That's the first thing everyone notices, and boy my shoulders are happier when carrying it rather than the other boats...
On flatwater, the boat seems to have zero initial stability (compared to the Booster), so I was nervous at first. But being so short, the tail doesn't get caught so much in eddy lines, so I found myself becoming confident quickly. It turns out that precisely because of the lack of initial stability, it's very stable in moving water : the bottom of the boat is in fact quite round and I find that I don't get tripped by waves too much. Plus that makes it easy to roll, although it's so light and short that you can pop the bow out of the water with bad rolling technique. It looks (so far) like the requirements for edge control/tilt might be a bit relaxed, but I haven't been in big current yet.
But it is slow... Noticeably slower than Paul's Superstar (which felt HUGE when I tried it), and much slower than my other boats. At BYOB, I had to paddle constantly while on the wave. If I relaxed and just planted a rudder, I would get flushed quickly. I will need practice ferrying in strong curent with this thing.
Overall I'm quite happy with it so far. One drawback is that my magic water bottle doesn't fit in the holder, though.
