The club Exec has set the New Comers day to June 13th for this year, earlier in the winter.
In the (recent) past, we have been going "en masse", on the Ottawa river up near Beachburg.
With groups over 30 of varying caliber, with the most experienced paddlers taking the lead and fishing out guys like me, back then.
Some of our members have been paddling for decades, others have started only a year or two ago.
Some learn very fast, like Adam aka "The Backyard Swimming Pool Terror of Stittsville", who started about 2 years ago, is 16 or 17yr old and already doing Donkey Flips and Loops (Darn!!! 8-)
In the same fashion, newcomers have varying level of skills and although this is not an instructing club, we watch over each other and all are there for the paddling pleasure - or the excitement.
More info to come.

Well, I wish I could be there with all of you, but I'll be 'training' on the great mountain bike trails of northern Vermont, in preparation for a 24 hrs relay race the following weekend.
All that biking talk reminds me--last weekend, CdB had a contingent at the 38th Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour. Over 354 km of headwinds, rain and sore rear ends. Sara E., Parham M. and myself were representing the club, so to speak since we were in different groups... I may have been dreaming it, but I seem to remember hearing Parham say that running marathons wasn't for him after all and that he might return to paddling. So if he makes it to the Ottawa this Saturday, maybe we should rename the event Prodigal Son Day? Ha!

We used it last Saturday and it's very convenient.
We're finalizing the party location and we'll have the details posted on Thursday.

There will be prizes for paddlers who distinguish themselves tomorrow by having the most original lines through any rapids, the most interesting swims..., the best trick on Angels Kiss or the waves below Garvins, the best Phapher, you get the message... Thanks to Paddle Shack for donating some of these prizes and greatly reducing the cost on the others.

We had a great day, with 19 paddlers present. The middle was still high at 15.30 and very fluffy, excellent for bringing newcomer to paddle. A few swims of no consequence, a few firsts, like Tibor running without swimming (I still hear him shout his glee, actually my ears are ringing...LOL). We finished at Ceilidh's friend's place, Tim, and had a great after Paddle party with great food, lots of stories and great prizes. We got to meet Tibor's lovely wife Yana and their daughter Barbara. I also learned that Sandra doesn't like to share...LOL.
Great organisation Bill, textbook fun day!
Paul ;D

Hey Everyone,
I had a great day yesterday and thanks for everyone's help. Bill did a great job organizing the trip and yelling at me "SWIM SWIM!" at the lower noname. I had a lot fun and lots of laughs.
Thanks,
Eric

Good to have you with us Eric.
We all hope to see more of you; swimming or not. :)
I had a great day as well.
On a personal note, it was nice to see someone else than myself pull a Louis in Little Trickle...
-
Truly fabulous day on the river ;D Surfing below Garvins was my favourite. It's like riding a bull. And Paul, for the record, you need to wait your turn. Didn't grade 1 teach you anything!
What a fun crowd of people we have in this club!
Sandra
P.S. We also saw a bear a kilometer before River Run take out. It was large and healthy. Apparently eat food from Wilderness Tour guests.
-
Some of us also saw 2 white tail deers, on the right bank.
-
Thanks for a great day of paddling on Saturday! I'm looking forward to many more excellent days on the river this summer!
