Is anyone going?

I'm really thinking about it. I was hoping to do it with Bill but I don't think he will come because the level is too low.

Not so fast Annie, we still have 3 days until decision time...

Hopefully, it's a positive desicion!!

It's not too low for the bottom Moose. Actually there are quite a few short CIII-III+ between all the bigger rapids.
R

Yes but there will be a release for the bottom moose. And it classified has a class V river!!!
-
Actually, the release only applies to the 2nd half of the bottom. Top half is natural flow.

Posted on another board today:

As of Wednesday afternoon, I've been advised repairs to the penstock below Agers Falls on the Bottom Moose will be completed by Friday afternoon and that Fortis Energy will go back on line by late afternoon or early Friday evening.
That means that paddlers hoping to paddle the Bottom Moose on Friday should plan on a morning/early afternoon run. If that doesn't fit your schedule, be advised that there will be a release on the Black River in Watertown from noon until two.
As in past years--Fortis will regulate flows over the dam at Agers to provide a level which seems to work for the most number of paddlers. The second half of the Bottom Moose becomes a bit more challenging at 1,000 cfs or more and so at my request, when the river is running at higher flows, Fortis dials it back to the 700 cfs range. Paddlers should be aware that Fortis does this at my request--not as an opportunity to chump-change its release and make more power.
If the majority of the paddlers don't like the level I've selected, you can let me know and I will raise the flows in future years. But I've been on the river the past two weekends at levels over 1000 cfs and I'm grateful we have the opportunity to tone it down for the Fest weekend. A little carnage is fun to watch but I don't want people getting hurt. At least not seriously. And I don't want people with class 4-5 skills to be discouraged from experiencing the Bottom because high water makes it too intimidating.
My call for weekend levels--in the 3.8' range. Pretty much optimal."

It might be wise to watch that board for updates....... The Moose is (almost) Loose....

As I just have to paddle this weekend, I'm in. Definitely for Sat and possible for Sun.

Are you doing the lower or bottom section?
I'm looking for people to do the lower section since my friends are all doing the bottom. Right now I pray every 5 minutes that Bill will come do to it but the water level is getting lower and lower. Some people from Barrie are doing this section so I might join them, but I would like to be with at least one person I know. Depending on how Saturday goes, I think I'll try to run on Sunday too.

I'd like to go, Saturday at least. Sara too, if she can borrow a creek boat for the day...

Christian,
Sarah can borrow my Blunt so you two will match!

What's Bill minimal level number?
Anyway, keep me posted for a Sat only hit and run.

Ok! My question:
It's a 4 hr drive to get there. Is anyone planning on making it a day trip? If not, we'd better leave tonight, which means hitting motels etc. Personally, since I need to be here Sunday, I find it a bit far...

-
Plan for me is to see what Bill says.
I am getting used to long drives, but won't go there if the lone driver.
Will be checking this thread later tonight after I arrived home.

Well, check my thread about doing a river a bit closer to home...
--C.

The moose itself is maybe 3.5hr. Old Forge where everyone stays is about another 1/2 drive past it. I'm driving down tomorrow, staying overnight.
-
I'll head down Sat morning with intent to just paddle the Bottom on Sat. What time are you planning on being at the put-in? I'll show up a half hour later and wait for you ;)

Well, well.
I just stepped in. Had great quality time with my older daughter in Montreal, playing beach VB together, but this has knocked me off the Moose.
I'll sleep and then maybe some park&play Saturday...??
-4C right now. Brrrr.

Moose was great.
Annie fired up the first half of the Bottom section and hit all her lines.
Joanne fired up all the rapids including a solid run on Crystal.
Massive crew. Lots of beverages to celebrate a great day!!

This was really a fun weekend.
I went there with the intention of doing the lower section. Unfortunately, because of the lower level, nobody was up to run it with me. So I had to go to the bottom with the impression I would walk everything. I got to the first rapid and decide to run it. It was so scary. It is a big steep slide. Once you get in, the slide is way more impressive that it looks from shore. All the other rapid were also fun. I still can't believe I run all of them up to this big chute (I don't remember the name of the rapid). The biggest fall I did to this day. Thanks to Joanne to show me the perfect lines on all the rapids.
I'm very proud of myself. It was so much fun. Too bad so many people decide not to come. It is definitively worth the drive.

Looks like we missed out on a great day! Next year for sure then...

It is releasing this weekend again.
-
Is anybody going? Annie your story is inspiring. :) I looked at the rock slide last year (fowlersville falls?) and it is pretty intimidating. Good for you for running it! I have to go back and run it some day.
-
I am trying to get to QCity for some paddling depending on levels. If I don't end up there the Moose could be a real possibility.
I will know Friday likely.
-
Even though I think that Annie was most pumped about running Agers, I have to say that she styled funnel... and there was a lot of carnage that day on that rapid.
Also, right as she committed to it, Adrian decided to demonstrate the military style crash through the rocks upside down line then roll up right before the "must make move" line.
And I was indeed happy with my line at Crystal - thanks to Ray for showing me the best visual points so that I was on line. I wouldn't have run it if I wasn't sure of starting the first drop bang on.
