Title: Middle Channel report!
Post by: windowshade on October 24, 2009, 09:22:31 PM
Well the sun didn't exactly come out, but it did peak out from time to time and the temperature was fair, low wind, no rain to talk of and we had a ton of fun! Thanks Louis, Bill and Jim for coming out to play! Maybe we can do it again next Saturday!

Cheers,

Paul ;D

Way to go Paul! (For sticking to it and getting this trip to happen). How cold was the water?

Just trying to make up for a lost summer, of no paddling to talk of...The water temperature wasn't that bad actually, didn't need my gloves, though I had them in the stern of my boats just in case...
Hope to go again next weekend and hope you can paddle with us then Peter! Weather channel says it's going to be sunny! (But who can tell this far off...)

Cheers,

Paul ;D

We had a few spots of blue sky, about 5min of very very light rain and a surprisingly long queue at right side horseshoe for surfing.
After saying by-bye to the various friends and foe, we left the crowd behind as I tried to keep up with the rest of the old farts and their faster creek boats, and went down the Middle - at 4'.

Water is getting fresh, bit to cold for swimming now...but just refreshing if you flip.
But in the end I was slightly overdressed and welcoming the fresher water on the bare hands.

Another lesson; 80 gal of water and no air bags is a lot of weight. Better to have 2 to empty those creekers on the water, one at each end.

Darn. Did I miss someone swim? With no balloons? A green boat maybe? Ohh...

This was a great weekend for swimming .. the geology on the bottom of iron ring rapids is quite spectacular  :)

Does anyone have a set of 80 gal air bags for sale?

Great trip
