Although the level on the Ottawa is hovering around -1 1/2 .... which is on the low side of things for the this time of year.
But your level of skill might still not be up to doing the Main channel, so answer clicky click if on the correct selection if you would be more comfortable in paddling the Middle Channel.

Well, at this level, the main channel is mostly swimmer-friendly, being fairly deep. Can the same be said of the middle one, at such a low level? Just wondering; my lowest level trip on the middle was at 5 on the gauge. I'm fine with either channels. People (experienced) going down ST Chute might provide entertainment... --C.

We'll be doing the Main Channel all summer long and I think the Middle is much more gentle for beginners and rusty paddlers alike, more sneak lines. The Middle still has enough water and Lower No Name has a good sneak on river right, plus S Bend is plenty fun for park and play and Garvins is always spectacular to see! Better to foster confidence than to scare our new paddlers. If they enjoy their experience on the Middle Channel they wil be more apt to try the Main next time. Little steps...
My two cents...

Hey, I might then be part of the Garvin run crowd (if any)! ST chute at this level would seem more inviting, even Dragon's Tongue... Alright then. I'll vote for the middle. We still get to enjoy/contend with/risk McKoys's chute... --C.

I think a deep main channel is better than a boney middle channel for would-be swimmers.
Other than Normans into Coli, I wouldn't see any "risky" spots. And precautions could be taken to set up people with throw ropes between those rapids...

as far as river running goes middle is more fun but not as safe (rocky) main slow small but safe (deep)
and at this level dragons and ST are good to go and WT shoot sould be good if you dont want to portage
but i think main then you could stop at pushbutton and garb thats were the fun is at

Hey Adam
Does that mean you're going with us tomorrow?
Paul ;D

I have seen/heard of countless begginers going down the main channel and really enjoying it.
The water is quite warm and there is no real danger for swimmers.
In my opinion, I would much rather be in big, deep water than being in shallow, rocky water if I swam...
As long as people know they need to swim river right after Norman's, it's all good :D

No, I think Adam with his new 2nd place jr world title is most likely too busy signing autographs now... :P
