Title: HOHW training run on Sat?
Post by: robert monti on March 30, 2011, 09:49:55 AM
Saturday morning I'm either x-country skiing or paddling. Phitty has posted that the Town Pet is running. Temps will be above 0 rest of week. That plus rain later should blow out most of the remaining shelf ice, plus some rain may bring the water up a bit.  Sat temp is forecast for 7 C.   Who would be interested in Town Pet run - rendez vous in town for 8:45 a.m. for those wanting to ride share or at the gravel pit put in for say 10:30 a.m. for those heading straight out? Cold water gear and self rescue skills mandatory this time of year.

I will mostly be in (as I already told you Rob). What will be the plan, run the river, park and play or both?

Just to throw that in the air, the Black in upstate New York is also running  ;).

I'm in for paddling Saturday - do I need a mamba or will the EZ do?

According to the online gauge, it's running at the same level as it was at last year's HOHW, 46 cms

Wendy, you don't need the mamba for the Town Section.  The EZ is fine for that run.

Bill, are you paddling?

Hi Rob,

Is this trip a go? If so, I am in. Where do you want to meet at 8:45am?

I am interested in tomorrow.  Where are we meeting up? I can drive with room for 4, but it's a truck so I would prefer to hop in with someone else.

Christian - I would also be interested in Sunday if tomorrow doesn't happen.

Mathew and I are interested.  Does this mean that surf wave on Ottawa is not happening?  Where do we meet in town (Ottawa) or in Petawa?  New to this whole thing.   :)

Different threads for different trips. The Champlain thing did go on as planned today and it was FABULOUS!!!!! $ hours of surfing the nicest Champlain I've ever seen! I'm sure that the trip to the Pet was equally a success!
Can't wait to hear THE TRIP REPPORT,,, BILL?

Ten paddlers made their way down the Town Section of the Pet. Air temp hit 13C, gorgeous sunny day. Still ice on the flats, eddys and shorelines and below golf course. This was probably the earliest weekend it could be run. Some great lines through Lovers and some entertaining lines through Suicide. Ray's being the most since he got spun around and finished the drop backwards -but upright.  Level was low, lower than HOHW last year. A few days of rain would nice about now.
