Subject: Fleet Street PS Shutdown - Tuesday August 15, 2011
Gentlemen,
Please be advised that, in order to facilitate some inspection work here at Lemieux Island, we must shut down the Fleet Street Pumping Station tomorrow, starting at about 7:00am. At present, we expect that the pumping station will need to be off for much of the day and will be restarted later tomorrow afternoon.
My apologies for any inconvenience

By the way, I want to make sure that everyone understands that the Pumphouse is not like Bate Island, Deschesnes and other playspots: it is not a free access spot. From the ORR website:
"Use of this area is via an agreement with the City of Ottawa, requiring users to be ORR members and abide by specific rules."
There is a liability issue vis-?-vis the city that is covered by insurance included in the ORR membership fee. Members have unlimited access, and there is provision for guest access via a black metal box in which non-members are supposed to deposit 5$ per visit. It is an "honour-based" system, subject to abuses, so I encourage everyone using the facility to either become a member of the ORR (www.ottawariverrunners.com, 50$/year includes Whitewater Ontario membership), or pay the drop-in fee.
It would suck if the city decided to close the facility for liability or similar reasons. Cheers all!

Roger,
Fleet street is back on now and we are not expecting nor planning any further complete shut downs this week.
Thanks!

Went there last night, and it was very low. Not worth it IMHO, but still there if needed!

We had lots of fun actually.. low but very paddleable.. good for the basics...

On Tuesday the PumpHouse was shut down. They brought it back up towards the end of the day. As a member of the Ottawa RIver Runners, I get emails when the PumpHouse closes and re-opens. (It is for maintenance). But, unfortunately I could not warn you because I was out of town for a few days.

I went tuesday around 7 and it wasnt dry or anything.. not as high as normal but clearly not boring. Give yourself challenges and the pumphouse will be as fun and challenging as anything else!
