Bastien!
and Jeremy poulin what is the maximun level that you did the section (seuil elizabeth)?
on se redonne des news sur le projet pour vendredi
-
I've only ever done the 7 sisters section, and it was at 35 or 40
I have no idea what JN said lol
-
good that will be very interresting friday under 100m3s les seuils= that looks like very funny !!!!
-
At that level the Seuil Elisabeth and the whole section is of course bigger but the lines simpler.
Last year, I ran that section in my SStar at 165.
Should be good surfing at that wave by the road.

-

I said the same this as you just did! Ive only ran it at 35-60 but I assume well take a look at the bigger ones and im pretty sure I am ok for this run! Ive got friends who ran it at 120 and a bove and they say it gets pretty big. Ive also got friends who ran it a 300 and above and they say its even bigger! the rouge is one of those rivers that change ALOT with 10 cms more. lol

So, to clarify, we are talking about the 7 sisters section, with the waterfalls, right?
-
A better question would be: Are the falls (by which I mean 2-7) are gonna be runnable at these levels??
That will probably be my deciding factor!
Thanks

Without the waterfalls...
Were talking about the Gauntlet, seen in this video is the Washing Machine section at 208 cms.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRulhTVD5P4
Heres another video of Marcos down the Gauntlet at similar levels
http://vimeo.com/33313124
The waterfalls are usually not run at this level As far as I know.. People run them from 50 cms and below.
Heres a video of the falls at 208 cms

So, the falls are pretty meaty lol, thanks for the videos. The rest looks good, i'm in!
-
Sounds good! Yep! the falls are meaty at this level! Well get to take a look at them walking along the portage trails! :P
-
yaaa thank for the precision LouisDionne i think it's a good section to do when the level of the water is big.
we will have fun in the big water.

Graham and I should be good to go as well. My cellphone number is on my profile. We're going to be coming up from Montreal since I'll be visiting family. Cheers!
-
we dont know if we will do canyon or 7soeurs but if the tendance is stable the 7 soeurs will be at 145m3s on friday i never do the canyon but i heart at 100 m3s its a low level for this section.
so what do jeremy and johncyr think doing about friday both section or just 1 ?

I'll probably tag along, but I'll wait and see what the final decision is. I'd like to experience the canyon section, and am having some questions about the 7 Sisters section at such a high level.
-
We have no intention of running the 7 sisters section at this level, so don't worry about that
-
Daniel,
I prefer to do the canyon too and the sooner the better because I have to be back in Hull at 16h30. Renaud and some friends from Mtl should be there too to run the canyon or so I hope.
Let's keep in touch.

Just for clarity, when people refer to the seven sisters section, they are usually refering to the "lower" section, but not necessarly the falls. Most people only run the "First Sister" (Elizabeths), but portage the remainder. Most of them are unrunnable above 50 cms, and even at 50 cms are difficult drops that are not often run. The exception being the last drop, which is a little easier, but still requires serious consideration.

Ok here the deal with me, Id love to do the Harrington Canyon and Sisters canyon too. Ill join Daniels run on the Harrington Canyon for 10 AM in the morning and if some of you guys are running the Sisters canyon in the pm ill join as well! Ill also run the green bridge rapid called "steep trout". Been wanting to since last year.
-
I think I am confused. I thought there were two sections of the river that were run at different levels.
The first being the Harrington Canyon, which I haven't run, and can't comment on.
The second being the 7 Sisters section, which begins beside the road, and includes Elizabeth's, Slice & Dice, Washing Machine, and the series of water falls.
Am I right?
My gut tells me the second sections is a bit hairy at this level, but the first is more in line. Kind of like Main vs Middle Ottawa at high levels.
-
You're right, Ryan.
Rafting companies use a benchmark of about 120 cms as an upper limit for running the Seven Sister section of the Rouge.
It translates roughly to a faded red line painted on a large rock at the Propulsion Rafting put-in.

good plans at 10:00 pm at the put-in for the canyon section.

Ok. It's official. I'll see you guys Friday morning.
If anyone wants a ride, and can get to Orleans, I have room for 2 paddlers and 3 boats.

Since I only caught half of this thread lol, I'm fairly confused, but I'll see you at the take out for the 7 sisters section at 10am Friday
See you then

Graham and i took a good look at the river description decided to skip thos trip. Class 4+ this early in the season with that ever important takeout above the falls will make us wait for lower water levels. Cheers and good paddling to everyone!
-
Most of us are actually running the upper canyon... Class 3-3+ super easy. Check the other Rouge thread.
-
Indeed, I never signed up for the seuil Elizabeth at this level. We are running the canyon

hi
From a person outside looking in ... what a confusing thread.
Historically there is actually 3 sections of the Rouge noted by the location:
Upper: In parc Mont Tremblant ... great for a 2 day canoe trip
Middle: the Harrington section
Lower: the 7 sisters section, taking out at hwy 148
Using the word "Canyon" to describe a section is most confusing because all 3 sections look like a canyon to me, especially when you are floating down in a boat.
BTW: at 160 cms the waves and holes on the Lower Rouge are huge... but it was a hoot to run it 130 cms a few years ago
Take care and have Hoppy Easter

Well Larry, it depends what is your reference. We are using the Quebec White Water info-d?bit reference. There are 6 sections named for the Rouge river with their current water level on this site.
See by yourself here for the complete list, the Rouge is in the Laurentides region.

We are running the section of the Rouge named Canyon.

Words words... The section is known as "Harrington canyon" section. This avoids confusion.
The lower section, which ends in the Ottawa river, is entirely feasible at 160 on the gauge, even in a playboat (I've done it), but many swam that day. Let's say the run is a bit... stressful. And there is significant current just where you need to take out to portage the falls.
On the other hand at this level, the Harrington canyon section has only one major rapid which ends in a big 'lake', and the rest is just fun.
Is anyone leaving from Ottawa? We can meet at my place at 8:15 (87 Goulburn--convenient location) to sort things out... I will be celebrating a friend's birthday tonight, but my mobile phone # is 613 355 2470.

Looks like I was thinking that we were running a different section that we really are. Daniel informed me of the correct section to look up and on second though we're definitely in. I've got a dog sitter for the dogs and the kayaks already up on the roof. See you guys at 10:00 in the usual meeting spot. Cheers! 8)

Hi
Well my reference is from simpler times when there were no internet, websites or online gauges. We would base our decision on whether the water was above or below the red line painted on a rock. We would drive up to the Lower Rouge putin and drive to the Middle Rouge if the water was too high. And at the time, most club members knew or soon learned the names of the sections we normally paddled.
Of course as times change, the naming of sections also change to suit whoever puts it out first. But if you ask me go paddle the "Canyon" section of the Rouge, I would clarify that with a question, "Is that the section near to Harrington?" so I don't end up at the wrong place.
http://www.canot-kayak.qc.ca/info_debit/index.html
I tend to use the above site because the government online gauge is referenced.
have fun on the river ....
Larry
