Well,

Ive been looking at Hogsback seriously for a few months now and I finally bucked up and ran it today. Last weekend on the Ouareau has taught me that I am actually more capable than I think I am but also to carefully look at a rapid and visualise yourself running it, thanks to Todd. Needless to say that I am fairly happy even though it didnt go quite as I visualised it, thanks to a loose skirt and no implosion bar. Water was a bit on the low side but thats what I wanted.

As I was heading towards the entry, I was fairly nervous but knew brandon was waiting for me in the eddy near the wall. I splashed some water on my face and paddled towards the lip. Everything slowed down and took my last stroke. I hesitated between a tuck or a boof and ended up plugging it deep. Rolled back up on my offside but my skirt had imploded and the boat was full. I told myself id still try and make my way to the pool a hundred yards below. Went through the first hole just fine but had to ditch my boat before the second one as it was headed towards rocks and wouldnt respond. I knew that id get chucked by the spout of the double drop and wasnt nervous at all about this swim. Brandon was following me closely and went for the paddle. I swam to shore and Richard helped me empty the boat.

All in all a great first timer. I spent the rest of the day taking shots of the boys as I didnt really felt like swimming some more. here are some shots of the day. Both Gopro and Canon.

Thanks guys!

Id love to go back with a better skirt and a proper boofstroke! Hopefully levels will hold but I doubt it... It was on the low side and the lake above is fairly dry.

I might be able to pull a few hours out of a hat this weekend and do it up. Its a drop I've wanted to run for years, but could never match up free time and good flow. Let me know.

Jer, if its still in Monday, id be keen for a rematch. Id need a proper skirt but I can find that! ill let you know!
