Title: Paddling weekend April 14-15
Post by: ducky on April 09, 2012, 10:16:49 AM
So Graham and I had a great time paddling this past weekend on the Rouge with you guys. So much so in fact that we would like to do it again on some different rivers. John and Bastien have both already expressed interest in running the Petawawa and the Ottawa next weekend. Of anyone else is interested please join us. The more the merrier.

The last time I spoke with someone about the Ottawa it was prime middle channel level but thay can change from day to day. Also the Petawawa is dropping but is still far from being rocky yet. Hope to see you guys out on the river.

P.s. Since some people have a hell of a drive an we're situated between te two rivers. Graham an I are welcome to the idea of having a few people crash at our place. We have a futon, couch, spare single bed, 2 single air matresses, and a queen size matress. Let us know! 8)

Its looking like I'll be around this weekend, so either or both should be good for me!

Glad to hear you and Graham--despite the helmet ornaments--had a good time!

I'll be conducting scholarship interviews this weekend, no paddling for me unfortunately...

If the level stays in the same neighbourhood, I'm ALL OVER a Sunday Middle Mission.

So how about paddling the Petawawa Saturday and the middle Sunday then. I'm good with that, anyone else?

Ok,

Martin & I are going to do the Middle on Sunday, what time do people want to meet at the takeout  (also which takeout).

Somebody make a decision please.

Meeting at the Owl put in makes more sense (drop boats and gear, then do shuttle, its not that long) 10 or 11am is the norm....any thoughts? We ususally use the "public ish" takeout, Farmer John I beleive its called

Yes lets say at 10:30 am at Farmer Black's (Farmer John usually refers to your wetsuit) takeout on Sunday morning.
Is everyone OK with that ?

Makes more sense to meet at put in, dump gear, and then run shuttle

Im in for Sunday and would love to carpool from Bates Island.

Im out for Saturday as I have way to many things to do and way too little money.

If the Ottawa is above 9, id like to run the middle. If its below that, Id be keen to run the main with 1-2 other strong boaters. If no one is in for the main, then ill gladly run the middle! :D

There is only one put-in, Owl free put-in above McKoys rapids. You decide where to go after McKoys...

For those paddlers who want to do the Petawawa with us on Sunday there is a possibility of running the Upper section instead of the town section. It's a bit of a hike but it's worth while. We'd be tagging along with Phil Kompass if he's in town.

If not we're going to stick with the original plan of the town section.

Also, my offer still stands for those city folk who want to crash at my place between rivers to save driving back and forth for each river. I've got mattresses, futons, air mattresses and lots of blankets. Let me know so I have stuff ready! Cheers!

Duck, did you mean Saturday for the Pet?
If someone can give me the grid for put in and take out, I feel comfortable taking people down the Upper

Whoops my bad, Saturday for the Petawawa. We also have confirmation that we will be running the upper petawawa on saturday. Myself, Graham, and Brad Wipp are going to meet at the corner of Doran Rd and Baron Canyon Rd Saturday morning at 8am, there is a parking lot on the south east corner. http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=doran+rd+and+barron+canyon+rd&hnear=Doran+Rd+%26+Baron+Canyon+Rd,+Petawawa,+Renfrew+County,+Ontario+K8A+6W7&gl=ca&t=h&z=16

from there its about a 2 hour drive into algonquin park, $13 at the gate per car, 4km shuttle, then a 4km hike with boats so we'll be looking at a start time of 11ish, and 2-4 hours to run the river. level is at 3.1 and is within the ideal range to run.
