Title: Ottawa Middle Channel - Sunday April 22nd, 2012
Post by: ducky on April 17, 2012, 01:36:27 PM: So Graham and I would like to take our room mate and new paddler down his first river this Sunday and wanted to know if there are any solid boaters out there who would like to tag along for extra help. He has his roll in the pool but he lacks experience in white water, and there's really only one way to get it.

Now, before anyone gets over excited that I'm bringing a newbie down the river in April he has a dry suit, necessary warm clothes, gloves, etc. His boat is outfitted with float bags and he has been taught how to swim defensively in white water as well as basic river signals.

It's just that Graham and I are only in our second season of paddling. I started last June and he started last August and we have been out 4 times a week on almost 8 or 9 different rivers so we're not totally helpless in getting down the river, we just appreciate the guidance and extra bodies on the water to help with a swimmer. I have a drytop and farmer john, and gloves. How is the middle at this time of year?

This is to say if a group that includes some strong paddlers is going down the middle I'd be interested in joining in the fun if that was OK but also obviously don't want to put myself or any others in a bad spot.

I don't take stupid chances and I have a pretty decent roll, but you know.... so yeah, similar as Andrew, I would totally like to come but definitely not along the lines of a "solid boater".
