Title: Ottawa Middle channel Saturday
Post by: Cindy D on April 20, 2012, 01:22:10 PM
Is anyone in for middle channel Saturday?  I can't make it Sunday with Shaunna and Graham and I don't feel for the Petite Nation, it's a bit too low for my liking.

We are 1 kayak, 1 canoe and 1 car at the moment.

I know, JN is my Facebook friend, a very entertaining one by the way.  I'll be at the Tims (Vanier - Allumeti?re) with Renaud at 9h00 AM.
See ya!

So to recap for the ones that aren't on Facebook.... We are meeting at the Tims at the corner of Vanier/Allumeti?re for 9AM tomorrow.

Martin K, Jean-Nicolas C and myself are riding together in my car.

Cindy D, Renaud, Marie-Eve B, Marie-Eve's brother Mathieu B, and Marie-Eve's boyfriend are also coming. Sorry, I've only met Cindy out of these people, but just recapping for anyone who is debating coming.

Most of us have to be back by around 5PM.

Room for another (inexperienced, has a pool roll, some moving water rolls but also some swims - drytop and farmer john) on this one? Getting up to the river is not a problem, can also give a ride to whoever.

I see no problem if you want to hop in with me Andrew! I have one more space left. Now I can vouch for you since I've only seen you paddle in the pool, but since you've done the Ottawa before, I see no reason why you can't come! So if you want to meet us at the Tim's in Aylmer, then leave your car there.. and hop in with me. Carpool and save a bit of gas :)

Thanks Luc but I think you mean you can't vouch for me - not a stickler for typos but I think that's a material change  :-\ ... The best I can promise is I won't take any stupid risks out there and will be cautious for my first run of the year and first at this sort of level combined with cool water and weather...

Unless I have a change of heart I'll see you there (and I'll text you to let you know in the AM if that's the case).

I don't feel for the Petite Nation, it's a bit too low for my liking.

Hi Cindy. You have to add a bit to the Petite Nation gauge. Apparently, as Bill got from a Qu?bec website, there is actually a 1.2X multiplier to include in the value given by the Qu?bec government online gauge (station 040406 at http://www.cehq.gouv.qc.ca). Yesterday, this gauge read 24.8 but the corrected k1c2 web gauge (http://www.k1c2.ca/rivers/rivers.php) read 29.8, which is closer to reality and a fun level with nice easy rapids and no scraping the bottom in the last kilometers of the run! But it was certainly not as epic as the Middle Channel at 9.75...
