There were rumours it might get shut down for repairs and I haven't been in a while.
-
On Wed July 25, I heard the water was still running because the closing date for some of the bid proposals, (for the upgrade that will shut the water off til spring 2013, while work proceeds), has not yet closed. Such should provide 2+ weeks more of flow.
-
Oops, the City is shutting the water off at midnight tonight, Sunday July 29, 2012 until spring 2013. In preparation for the shut down, the City has opened the bypasses at the pump house. Currently the water is running at ~6 inches above the usual peak.

It is still flowing right now. Perhaps even more water than yesterday.
Was told that they went to shut it off this morning and found that they had an eel infestation, and because of this the water should be flowing for another two weeks. First person to roll up with a live eel between their teeth, gets a free beer at Mill St.

There is limits to what one would too for a free beer.

That is good to know; I've yet to discover one.

Fishing an eel with my teeth is within my limits for a free beer; I hope there isn't any limits on the number of eels on can catch!

Eels or not, if the amount water that will flow during the next week or two is the same as last Sunday, this is the time to go! Remember to put money in the metal box if you're not a member of the ORR!

Why not going tomorrow? Wednesday, after work.

Ah, really, I wanna go and I have one or willing partners but I wonder at what time we can use the parking for free, if there is such time. I went only once and I can't quite remember if we paid a fee for the parking.
-
Parking is always free, even along the so-called 'fire route', but don't park there--it's best to park on the east side of the road, Commissioner St.. The whole area is used as parking by touring buses, so there is a lot of room. Worst case, after 'public servant' work hours, continue down to the government parking lot just below via Cliff St.
In any case, this facility is there thanks to a lot of work from the Ottawa River Runners, so put 5$ in the metal box down near the water!
Tomorrow (wednesday) is a toss-up: judo training or Pumphouse. Temperature will determine outcome for me! --C.

A bunch of YCCCers will be at the pumphouse tomorrow at 6pm. (in case anyone is worrying about friends around to fish them out from the end of the tunnel)... ;) we'll be starting on the FW with some newbies...
