Title: Sunday Adventure...Rouge, Seuil Elizabeth!
Post by: JohnCyr on March 06, 2013, 07:13:01 AM
So Word on the street is the Rouge, Seuil Elizabeth is clear of ice along the rapids and on the flats...... A few guys I know ran the section last weekend without the chutes (as they have undercut ice) and there was no problem and its good to go! at 53 cms, there is nothing to worry about and its a fun class 3+ run. Mind you its winter and water is cold. Not a place to be swimming or constantly rolling. Any interest?  ???

Tempting, but I think I am just gonna hit up sewer wave as a warm up.

Hmmm... early spring again this year it seems...

BTW, I might be wrong, but water temperature is not at its coldest yet. It will be when the water is gray, full of silt from the 'just melted' stuff and with floating  chunks of ice to dodge. Then the surface water temperature will be very close to zero Celsius. Right now we are still getting lake bottom water, around 4 degrees C.

Rouge at 53 m^3/s is a nice beginner-friendly level, I'd be up for it (in a big boat still), but why not hit Sewer Wave, or Champlain Saturday/Sunday indeed? The Rouge is always there, not so for city playspots...

Much better chance of getting me to go to sewer wave than the pool, that's for sure!
Temperature is looking good all weekend too....

Paul ;)

I believe I should be able to make either Saturday and/or Sunday. My wife wants to go x-country skiing Saturday morning... but that will depend on the crazy weather we have. Even if we do go, it's early in the morning. So I should be able to go boating around 11AM until around 4PM, then I have dinner plans at friends'.

Sunday I'm also free most of the day, but I will have to leave around 3:30PM since I have a flight to catch at 7:15PM to Calgary.

So do post what is the plan since I'm definitely hoping to get some paddling in!

HAHAHAHA

No actually, I went home yesterday, laid in bed to go for a nap and decided to go on kijiji and check my daily "what I am searching for" deals...  I searched "kayak" like usual and noticed  a boat that was never even in my choices to consider... Then read a bit on it and talked with a few friends in the UK who paddle this brand and decided not to wait and pick this sweet deal up ASAP. I think the boat stayed on kijiji for less than an hour hahaha.

Brand New Pyranha Everest with tags still on and Brand new MEC WW Paddle with tags still on.... Paid a Ridiculous price of 500$ for both. They guy has had his old one stolen and received this one after an insurance claim... never even used it.

Earlier this week I also picked up this brand new baby for half the retail! :)

The Everest is a nice boat indeed. It has a more creek-oriented stern than the Burn (rounder=better), and is big enough! Boat+paddle for 500$: unbelievable deal you got there!

Wilderness tours had monstars for sale for $500. Was thinking of picking one up as a second in case my other broke, seeing as how they no longer make a fat guy boat at jackson.

Well, yeah, but the current Super Star is a whopping 67 gallons! Mine, a 2009 model, is 60.3 gallons. And the Liquid Logic makes a Freeride 67 too... Have you tried the new Super Star?

I did.

I found I was maybe at the top of the weight range for it.

I find my monstar floats me at around the mid range. Its 72 gallons.

I should get out with the new superstar on the river and try it.

Paul, sick cats need their 'me' time, on their own. Just make sure you open the bird cage before leaving your appartment.

Confirmed. I'll be there too. Around 12:30-1:00. Meet you guys there.

And I really want to run Hogsback as well. So JN, I'd be up for that in the next few days. I'd like to bring my wife to take pictures with her DSLR.
