Hello all. The King of Clubs is a fun event of paddling and other activities organised very year where Ontario paddling clubs compete against each others. Information about last year's event can be found here:
http://www.whitewaterontario.ca/news/competition/541-king-of-clubs-2012.html
To this day, our club has never participated, not even once! This is a shame. Perhaps the reason is that the event has been held during Labour Day weekend and most Ottawa folks go elsewhere that weekend. In order to select a date that will satisfy everyone, especially us Ottawa residents, the organisers are reaching out and asking our opinion about two possible dates for the event. You will find all the information about this below. Please vote during the next seven days, and we will transmit the choice to the organisers. And we hope that this year many will participate from our club! Cheers...

===============================================
It is time to firm up a date for this year?s King of Clubs.
Clubs invited to vote, based on being invited to attend in previous years:
1. GKC - Guelph Kayak Club
2. KWP - Kawartha Whitewater Paddlers
3. PRR - Petawawa River Rats
4. GBKC - Georgian Bay Kayak Club
5. WKC - Western Kayak Club
6. ORR - Ottawa River Runners
7. MW ? McMaster Whitewater
8. CWC - Cataraqui Whitewater Club
9. CUKC - Carlton University Kayak Club
10. CdB - Coureurs de Bois
Each club gets one vote.
Choices are listed below?Vote for #1, #2, OR #3
1. Sat Aug 3rd (Civic Holiday Weekend)
? Conflicts with another annual private event in Petawawa that many paddlers go to
2. Sun Sept 1st (Labour Day Weekend):
? Works for many people and this is the established KOC weekend for the past four years
? Conflicts with Beaver Fest in NY and it?s a University/College move-in weekend
3. Alternating: Sat Aug 3rd this year, Labour Day next year, etc?
? Always most paddlers to attend at least every second year
Please reply back to me and I will tally the votes.
Voting closes Friday March 22, 2013 at 12 noon, please confirm as soon as you know.
(In the event of a tie, decision will be based on first votes in)

I did check the link. It's the 2012 page. No mention of a vote for 2013 date selection...

I doubt any club from Southern Ontario will vote for the event on a non-long weekend.
When KOC started the main contenders were GKC and KWP.
The PRR didn't join the competition until a few years ago.
From the last look on the CdB Forum there are 180 names listed. Whether they are actually paid in full is a different story.
So out of that number of 180 there should to be at least 10 people interested in having some fun in the competition.
What is needed from the CdB is a few members interested in attending KOC to step-up early on in the process, drum up support and get other members interested. Not every CdB paddler heads to Beaverfest on Labour day weekend. The whole event is supposed to be fun so winning the darn thing actually comes secondary.
No matter what weekend is chosen, there will be a conflict.
My vote:
Labour day weekend ...

At the bottom of the page earlier referenced http://www.whitewaterontario.ca/news/competition/541-king-of-clubs-2012.html is this bit
"Cost:
The cost of this event is $10 for WO members and $15 for non-WO members. This entry fee covers WO insurance for the day for all on-water events and the cost of the food at the BBQ. Non WO member clubs will need to pay the $25 annual fee to register as a WO club."
I believe that CDB is currently not a member of WO and has not been for a long time. I hope that does not cause any grief.

Nope
There is an annual fee that CdB pays WO for events such as this, including the HOHW in May.
In order for the CdB to become a WO membered club, all members of the CdB are required to be members of WO as well.
That doesn't stop anyone from becoming a member of WO, either by signing up as an individual or on a local basis through the Ottawa River Runners membership process.
