Title: Gull River: July 6-7
Post by: Murrs on July 02, 2013, 11:50:51 PM
Hi All,

This weekend is another fun weekend of white water, microbrew, and haute cinqes.

Some of us are headed to the Minden Wild Water Preserve and campground.

This location is a modified dam controlled stream specifically tailored to stepping up a few notches. The rapids are all within an 800m stretch centered around a campground, with the more difficult rapids at the top, a place to launch half way down, and the easier features downstream. A description of the rapids can be found here:

As the description mentions, one has to remember that the river can be a little shallow, so be patient and make the rolls count. Luckily it looks like we'll be able to set up some solid safety where we so desire.

The general plan is to leave Ottawa at about 5pm of Friday afternoon, which will have us cracking a cold one by a warm fire by about 10pm. Saturday will be checking out the rapids and getting our sea legs back with some easier lines and good surfs, while Sunday should be good to nail the lines we only hoped for on Sat.

We currently have about 4-5 people coming in from Ottawa, and 1 from T.O. If you know of friends that are interested, don't hesitate. The more the merrier. Please let me know if you are able to drive. We'll all bring gas money and beer to make our company on the ride there and back more bearable.

As mentioned above, camping is the name of the game. The cost is ~$18pp/night. This might seem a little much until you factor in that this is a modified/maintained river made specifically for kayaking... in which case it's a great deal.

BOOM! This will be awesome. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Cheers,

Andy

ME and some friends planned to be up there this weekend as well. So look for us.

I know this river like the back of my hand, so I could show some of you down it.
