Title: mini-fest on the Gatineau July 20-21
Post by: ninja on July 16, 2013, 09:10:55 AM
Don't forget that this week end is the 7 sisters event on the Gatineau!

the 7 sisters is a group of women paddlers that promote and encourage woman to paddle whitewater.

come join on for a really fun week-end. this year will be the 8th anniversary!

bring food to share in the pot luck and camp with us at the Bonnet rouge.

kayaks, open boats, C1, rafts: we like everyone!

and... there will be a white zephyr at auction!

I would like to join you!
Two questions:
1. How is the level? I think I've only paddled the Gatineau at relatively low levels.
2. Are Y chromosome carriers excluded?

The gauge was at 6.5 yesterday: it's an easy level (last years festival had kinda the same levels)

the gatineau is a friendly river to swim... I know someone who did swim the whole river on purpose.
it is possible to scout every rapid and to walk it. or walk it back to run the rapid again.
there are pools after every rapid.

of course, all man are invited. so are hermaphrodites, transgender or else.

everyone is welcome in the paddling familly!

Hi

You would do fine on this river whether in your boat or swimming beside it.
I wouldn't recommend swimming below the Bec de Corbeau ... sort of like Lower No Name at low water levels with the rocky runout.

Bonnet Rouge surf wave should be in.

Larry

I am interested in a day paddle.  10:30 at Bonnet Rouge sounds fine.  (If I remember it is about a 1.5 hr drive from downtown Ottawa?)

hey Larry

I have to be somewhere at 7pmish on Saturday night. Is it possible to get back before then. If so, that sounds good.

Does anyone have an extra spray skirt she/he could bring along? Size/quality won't matter too much. I have a friend visiting from France and he might be interested in running the river and portaging the rapids. I would have a boat for him and am trying to organize the rest.

I have an extra skirt, I can bring it.

Just tossing the idea out--anybody thinking of driving up Friday after work and camping? Unless it rains of course...

Larry and Liz, can I be part of this Saturday only carpool/paddling trip? I'm completely flexible re: timing on both ends (coming back by 7 pm is fine by me). I also have a station wagon with a roof rack so I can be the driver if you (two) want.

Cheers,

Stefan

I would like to follow somebody there. Can we meet somewhere on the Qu?bec side? I will only be paddling the Saturday.

Thanks,
Marc

Hi

follow the yellow line on Hwy 105
Through towns of Kazubazua, Gracefield, cross the bridge at Bouchette.

If you plug the final co-ordinates into your GPS, you will need a waypoint for Hwy 105 at Bouchette

too complicated ... here's a map.

Hey Larry

Heather is going and has to be back for the same thing that I'm going to so she is going to pick me up. Dani, you can follow us. She is coming to my house at 8:45am.  Do you still need a spray skirt?

Perfect! I'll be at your place at 8:45 AM on Saturday. Christian said he would bring a spray skirt and I think I'll find a helmet and a PFD somewhere in the hood.
See you Saturday!

Wonderful! Would be great if you could bring those along, just in case my friend wants to join us for a river run.
Thanks & see you!

Stephen,

Give me a call (613 297 3527) and maybe we can work something out for the car pooling?
