Title: Beaver-Taylorville map?
Post by: Francois Leclerc on September 19, 2013, 05:07:58 PM
Can someone direct me to a website somewhere where I could find a detailed whitewater map of this section please?

Do you mean detailed like this?

at
That image and a couple more like it can be found here:

Clicking on the map tab on the above page will give you accurate put-in and take-out locations.

No need for a map, rapids are still well separated even if the run is short, and everything is easily scouted.

Note that the access trail brings you just downstream of the put-in, so take advantage of this to scout the first two rapids, an nice walk on flat rocks. The put-in is actually ABOVE the new pedestrian bridge that was built this year. Make sure however that you put in one eddy below the 'eddy' that has a big tree trunk above it. Many people put-in above that, but the drops are a bit tricky.

Anyway, Google Earth has new high-resolution photos of it, see below.

Thanks for the info. I just wanted to have an idea of what to expect. Anyway, it seems the last dam release is this weekend and I can't go. Maybe next year!

Not with me, sorry.  I will likely be going but chances are that I will camp there on Friday and that I will stay until Sunday to do some climbing in the dacks or maybe run the Black river if the level holds. In any case, my trip may include a detour by Kingston, so I am not a good candidate for carpooling.

To all hikers/rockclimbers:

If you come across a stream of water you need to cross and build a makeshift bridge, can you please remove it as soon as you are done? Nobody needs additional hazards on rivers....

Any chance of meeting us somewhere on the west side of the city?

I can drive, but orleans is pretty far out of my way.

As early as possible. I'd like to be on the 416 by 8am. I am outside of carleton place. The complete other side of the city.

Just hang, Fran?ois. Weekend plans are often decided on Thursday evening. Orleans is a big detour, but if you can get yourself delivered to the Fallowfield/Woodroffe Park'n'Ride, you could get a ride  to the river from there.

Thanks.

Just to let you guys know that Jaclin has offered me a ride to the Beaver. He lives much closer to me and it will be much simpler. Thanks everyone.
