With all the rain we've gotten, levels on NY rivers are on the rise.
A few of us we thinking of either the Lampson Falls section of the Grasse or the St. Regis .
Grasse (Lampson Falls) http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1310/
St. Regis http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1431/
They're both good runs and are fairly close to Ottawa.
Comments, ideas...?

I'd vote for the Grasse on Saturday since I've never done it. But I'm in either way.
For those that can't reply to this thread, I'm aware of the technical bug and have informed the appropriate people to fix it. Should be fixed sometime today.

Ahhhh!!!!
Anybody up for something SUNDAY as well? Either Grasse or St-Regis. I'm stuck on campus Saturday morning, meeting high school students and their parents...

I'm in for grass, and could probably be convinced to go to st regis on sunday.

Not too hijack. I'm good with either choice. But I want to throw in another dimension. Given what an enjoyable day it was paddling and then feasting at Dieu du Ciel in St. Jerome I would like to suggest that Saturdays’ paddling trip, for those interested, become more Epicurean with good paddling and good food. I have had my eye and have been reading about this restaurant "1844" on Highway 11 for a couple of years. It looks like a B&B. It features local seasonal food.It gets rave reviews and it’s on the road between Canton and Potsdam. I haven’t suggested it before because this place is definitely pricier than what we typically shell out for pizza/pasta in the area at Mamma Lucia’s. However, poking around the website I see they have an early dinner table d’hote option at $20 pp. We just need to be seated for dinner before 5:30. Reservation mandatory. So epicures, post up if you are interested in securing a reservation for gastronomic post paddle treats at 1844 House. There is limited space. Pleas post asap so I can contact the owner about a reservation. The owner needs to know how many to see if we can be accommodated. Thanks

St-Regis on Sunday sounds good!

Oops--St-Regis will be too low unfortunately...

The Grass was a highlight last time. The St. Regis is good too, but the level seems to be staying steady when we need it to rise.
I can try your new restaurant, Rob. But the pressure is on to beat the pizza place.

Hi folks,
After discussion in an earlier thread, the consensus is to paddle the Grass in New York
http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1310/
Plans are to meet at the Fallowfield Park & Ride at 8:15am 8:45 am and be on the road by 8:30am 9:00am
GPS: 45.297849,-75.734857
Since we're heading to New York State, please remember to bring your passport or you won't be doing very much paddling...
The usual caveats about cold water paddling apply.
Please feel free to use this thread for ride sharing/carpooling.
If you have any questions, contact me after 7:00pm on Friday
The previous thread has been merged with this one

Ugh - Why so early? It's a 2 hr drive. If we leave ottawa at 9 we will be on the water before noon and off by 400. My guess 8:45 will make it a bit easier for Annie who has to come over from Gatineau to meet up to carpool and probably for Peter coming in from Fitzroy. Those who want to get straight back home will be home plenty early. Last weekend we were done the Black before 3. Just wondering what the reasoning is for the start time.
-
Good points, Departure time changed to 8:45 ...
-
Jon and I will be there. I'm easy for restaurant but since Jon is driving, I'll let him decide.

I am in too. Thanks Rob for asking to move the time to a bit later and thanks Bill to agree to it. I am happy to try the new restaurant so I am good either way.

As long as I get to eat and they have beer I am good wherever we go!
-
Rob, sounds like Jon and I, as well as Annie and Sandra are in for dinner at this place.
Unclear for dinner is Peter & Bill.
-
Chris, Derek, and I are in. We'll all jump in Chris' truck.
-
Also, FYI,
Apparently the Nice 'n Easy in Ogdensburg and Bessette's in Canton have some great beers (Dogfish Head 60 & 90 min IPA etc).
Probably worth stopping by.

boat repaired using the following and a fiberglass patch

great repair stuff ... used it on the my Wavesport boat last year..
Now to find the rest of my gear, and hopefully the skills to paddle will come back... sort of like riding a bike.
I can meet at Fallowfield

My plan for 1844 House won't work this trip It's "commencement" at the 4 colleges in Potsdam and so they are booked up. We can stick with the usual.
But if you find yourself in the area at another time and you are looking for an interesting place to eat, you might want to check this place out sometime: http://www.1844house.com/
If you do, post a review please!

Hey,
Would I be able to hitch a ride with anyone going tomorrow? I live in Orleans but could come meet you anywhere to leave in the morning. Let me know,
Chris
-
Chris,
If you meet us at the meeting spot that bill posted, I can give you a ride.
make sure you bring a passport.
-
Bill,
Someone we met and paddled with on Beaver Creek (from Cornwall) would like to join us. Denis St Pierre. Since he's coming from Cornwall, I figured he could meet us there. Would we head to the takeout or the putin first? And I'm predicting a 10:40AM arrival there. Does that sound about right?

My video edit of the day. All the "fun" stuff is after 5 min in. I decided there was enough to have a "category" of its own. ;)

That sure looks like hell'a fun. Sorry I missed it. Next time.
-
Hey! A lot more water than the times I was there! Definitely more of a pushy river than a creek. Too bad I missed it.

Thanks for all the safety and river guidance everyone. BTW, if anyone is missing a light blue water bottle, found at the take out, let me know.

My most enjoyable day on the river yet this season! For a group of 18, I anticipated more delays at some of the drops, but everyone made their decisions without much fuss and we progressed down the river at a good pace. 2100 was a great level as the water was fast and even the last part of the run, which we know can be tedious, was basically wave trains. Stopping for lunch at North Country boof worked out well as we got to lap it a few times. Great day. Luc you captured it well. Jocelyne practically snorted her coffee out her nose when she heard the music you chose for the "main event." Well done. I learned I need to thicken my grab loop. After the last flip I hung out and tried to find the "green water" to pull me out. I found it, but then the paddle was ripped out of my hands (you see the paddle pop up in the video). The currents were impressive down there! I couldn't find my grab loop and thought I made a rookie mistake and sealed in under the skirt. I starting to wonder whether I was royally screwed. That gets the adrenaline firing! I ran my hand back and forth along the combing. It was just pressed flat against the deck. I'm glad I could do my part to contribute some footage. The air sure tasted sweet when I came up.
-
Great video, Luc! Thanks for making them. They're fun to watch and it's nice/interesting seeing other people's lines.
-
Yeah, if that's what you call what I did there... ;) My "line" hehe
-
Great video Luc. I almost felt like I was there.
Rob, I just bought a new skirt and the handle is really skinny so I bought some golf balls with holes to add to the handle. I can give you one and have about 5 others if anyone else wants one. Sorry I wasn't there to see the swim in person :)
-
Luc,
Great video!
