Hi all.
Just found out from a very reliable source that the combination of riverbed fill at the location of the bridge being built there and the opening of the dams in order to empty the reservoirs might create a surf wave right at the bridge construction site. It's the Rideau river in Strathconna Park in Sandy Hill. When the bridge is complete, the material restricting the flow will be removed, so if the wave forms, it'll be only once. The Rideau river authority plans to close the dams on November 7. I will investigate and report.

Cool, that could be neat. Waiting on report.

The civil engineer in charge of the whole HW417+bridge projects used to be a club member... Nice of him to let us know!

What it looks like now. Dams will open soon, during the weekend I believe.

This is pretty local for me, I can check it out on the Saturday morning and post on it.

If that level rises, the pad they are using to make the bridge foundations will go under water. look how close the current river level is to the top of the gravel pad.
they may hold back that flow so it does not do that.
should be interesting.

Took a look from the Vanier side of the river yesterday and below the construction, there's certainly nothing yet that would be surfable. I'll check it out again tomorrow.

I didn't post this weekend but I did go by, nothing close to surfable there.

We're is strathconna park??

Just upstream of the Montreal Rd. bridge on the Rideau river. Range Rd. to be precise.
