Title: Mackfest 2015 info
Post by: ChristianG on February 26, 2015, 12:15:06 PM

"Hi everyone,

Would you be so kind as to pass the information along to your clubs.

Tentative dates are April 11-12th.
I will confirm these dates on the Mackfest website on March 15th after I check out the Beaver as it's the last river to thaw out.  Gauging on conditions right now, it might get pushed back another week but I'll make that call then.

www.mackfest.ca
T-shirt pre-order on the Mackfest Facebook page.

See you soon on the river,

Manny"

The way things are going, we'll still be frozen by then  :(

Btw, here is the link to the facebook page for Mackfest: https://www.facebook.com/groups/183076831729284/ (https://www.facebook.com/groups/183076831729284/)

This has now been confirmed for April the 11-12.

I will be there, I hope to see more people there.

If anyone wants a ride, or to share a room somewhere let me know.

So here is my tentative plan for mackfest:

Saturday there is a small group of us planning on doing a warm up on the salmon. Its a nice easy class 2-3 run.

Then Party at Bunkers, camp overnight or find a floor to sleep on.

Sunday Beaver river. My personal favorite of all the hwy 7 runs. Class 3-4.

As of now I am 50/50 on whether the ice will break for the 11th, so thats why this is all tentative.

Hi.

Busy on the 10 (Saturday) but might make the trip to the Beaver on Sunday!

Jon, spoke to my wife, I'd be in for the Sunday wherever you guys are going. I'll just be happy to get out.

Plan will be to leave early in the morning from Ottawa and meet up with you at a designated location.

I obviously understand this is tentative, regardless, I'll be up for some paddling that Sunday.

Adam and I will most likely be there. Although there is a possibility that Adam has to work that weekend. Will keep you posted.

Received the below message from the Mackfest organizers.

Quote
You're right about the weather cooperating...it's going to be a close call but I think looking at the forecast for the next 10 days, we should be ok.  I'll try not lose more sleep over it...;)

If luck is not on my side and none of the rivers are thawed enough, I will push Mackfest to the following weekend.  This is going to be highly unlikely but I'd rather do that than cancel the entire event.  I will email you by next Wednesday or Thursday if that's the case.  I will post it on the www.mackfest.ca page, as well as the facebook page so please tell your guys to have a look before they leave.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that...

Have a great paddling season,
Manny

I'm pretty sceptical that things will be flowing for that weekend.
NOAA, is giving a very high probability that the temperatures for the area will be below average between April 7th-11th, and between the 9th and 15th are still below average:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/
I'd certainly like to attend if things are flowing, but I'm keeping my skis out and my snow shovel in the car for now.

From Mackfest:

MACKFEST POSTPONED TO APRIL 17/18/19
I am truly sorry for those who cannot make it now but I fear the levels will still be below minimum by the 11/12th. This week's cold weather will slow things down, drop the levels a bit but next week's warm temperatures should be what we need to melt the remainder of the snow ( and there's quite a bit left ).

 :(

Jon, are you going to run the Salmon on the 18th and the Beaver on the 19th?

I have not even thought about it honestly.

I might just go for the day, and if I do that it will be for the beaver.

I will let you know my plans next week.

Just an update.

I believe I will only be going for the one day, unless levels turn out to be fantastic.

I think I will be running the beaver, although there have been grumblings of the skootamata, which I have not run, and would be in for.

the day we'll be there is yet to be seen, going to wait til thursday to see what the consensus is.

Hey guys,
Is anyone heading up Sunday that's up to carpool? I'm looking for a ride. I'm game to run whatever.
Thanks, Chris.

I'm planning on going Sunday. Let's car pool or convoy. Want to meet in the core or at Eagleson?

Great day! aside from getting run off the road by bill (he didn't notice and just drove away :P), almost rolling my car and having to get the local farmer with a tractor to pull me out.

Surprisingly no damage to the car, except for a few plastic fasteners missing on the front.

Such a cool river!

Bill drives like my mother use to ... Never thought a slow moving vehicle could force you off the road.
--- only to prove that you are safer in your boat.

Ya, I just got over to let him by and the road gave way on my side, sucking my car in with it.
