Hey everyone,
This year the organizers of Kipawa Fest would like people to confirm if they will be attending through th facebook event. https://www.facebook.com/events/908937515832651/
Consider attending this event, its a great weekend, and the river is totally worth the drive.
-
I replied that I will attend. I agree, fun event, fun river!
One of those rivers everybody should do at least once :-)
-
I talked to Wayne and Leia from KWP/GKC. They're going too. This year should be great as usual! I'll try to register, even though I have no Facebook access...
Too bad our Fearless Leader Jon can't make it this year...

Anyone interested in/planning on heading out on Friday morning and hitting up a run along the way? Petawawa Town section?

I'm still in and should be able to get away of Friday morning. I can split a ride with you Larry. Daniel what are you plans for transportation? Are you still planning to go on a bit of a tour after the Kip?
Hmmmm, creek boat or river runner/play boat?
-
Ha.
Still undecided as to when I leave.
I don't care what others bring, but I bring my big boat.

Dave, Larry M. and cie that want to stop running the Petawawa, is it ok if we meet at eagleson park at 10:00?
After the fest , I am going on a road trip to reach Saguenay by the north (Senneterre, Chapais)...

10:00 is sounding good Daniel! A couple of things about the Pet though 1) Between Larry and I we have run it about 1.5 times 2) We hear that it might be a bit low 2.7 (or 46cms) and dropping. I imagine we will all be OK with that, or we may want to more rush up to the Kipawa and paddle some of that on Friday??
But for now lets keep it open and plan to meet at Eagleson at 10:00
-
perfect!!
there is also a lot of paddler from Abitibi that will go on the Kipawa tomorow
-
10:00 at Eagleson.

This is why some of us didn't paddle on Sunday: no dam release, flow around 60 m^3/s because of this:

We heard the helicopter in the morning and later the Esprit Rafting people as well as others were doing the search. Mike McKay may have been the last one to see fishing boat+occupant intact just above Buttonhook, arguably the most difficult and nasty rapid of the run, especially Saturday since the flow was higher than usual at 160 m^3/s.
Hopefully it's nothing tragic but it might be, let's stay tuned. Some of gang did run the river so they will have more details.

hi
Only several groups did the river on Sunday. There were search parties on both sides of the downstream of Buttonhook. We searched where we could from the water for a while.
As per attachment they shut off the flow. We rode a small bubble down the river... actually is was OK of a descent. The lower flow provided an opportunity for R. Maggs and a few of his buddies to run the top section of Hollywood.

Btw, it was a 53 y-o man in a fishing boat who went down Buttonhook and is still missing. Likely not wearing a pfd, and obviously no helmet. The rapid was huge that day. It would have happened almost exactly 48 hrs ago, around 17:00 Saturday. --C.

Sadly, the fisherman that went missing on the Kipawa on Saturday was found by SQ divers at the bottom of Buttonhook rapids Tuesday afternoon.
