Title: Recommendations on Class 3-4 Creeking <2 hours from Ottawa?
Post by: Dani on April 27, 2016, 10:17:44 PM
Shane and Jack (you may remember them from the Kipawa) are over for some kayaking and are looking for suggestions. This week they've already done the Gatineau (big), the Petite Nation (nice), the Upper Madawaska (stout) and the Mississipi (flat). Any suggestions? Thanks!

Not much creeking around. NY state flood is over. But the laurentians are flowing: Achigan, Ouareau, Bonniebrook, Doncaster (class IV-V) etc. Some folks are planning a trip up there. Also the Petawawa town section (upper section not available, entire Algonquin park closed), Rouge etc...

Unfortunately the water is mostly gone now.

The ouareau might be in this weekend.

Thanks for the tips! Jack ended up hanging out on the wave at the ruins quite a bit, and  they also did the Petite Nation several times. I joined them yesterday - what a wonderful river so close by, I had no idea! And you can basically do it after work - so just in case anybody is planning on running the Petite Nation as long as the levels are still good, I'd be happy to join.

Its our secret  ;)

Its good well into summer, and well into lower levels as well.

Jon's right, it's still good down to 40 cms on the Federation Gauge (http://www.canot-kayak.qc.ca/info_debit/)
It's running at 107 cms today

The Blanche in thurso is a great start! Good class 3+ mixed with a couple 4's and 5's. :) Couple annoying portages but its a gorgeous scenery and worth it if you ask me! :)
