Title: Rouge Days
Post by: DaveH on June 16, 2016, 08:00:55 AM
So the Rouge is set to be running at a nice level for the next few days (90 CMS right now and dropping) and I wouldn't mind making a visit. I have tomorrow (Friday 17th) off, and if anyone has game to go then that would be great; later start probably.

Hmmm, 16:30 might be too late of a start for me. By later start, I was thinking like 12 or so. Nope, I think it is probably better to wait till Sat morning and then get a relatively early start that day.  Save the 4:30 start for some Tue-Thur evg in the near future perhaps.

OK, for Saturday let's call for meeting at the Tim's in Gatineau off of Highway 50 @ Montee Paiement by 10:00am, or at the takeout (east side of the bridge along Highway 148: Lat,Lon 45.643924,-74.689028) at 11:00.

If folks want to organize shuttles before TImmy's etc., then use this thread to set whatever up.

Here is a link to that section of goodness:

Dave, are you planning on running the lower Rouge section, with the 7 sisters?

How does the level relate to when the rafts start to run the lower; like the old red line mark.

Cheers,
Bruce.

Hi Bruce. Yup the 7 sisters section: Elizabeth Ledge, Washing Machine, etc., portage a bunch of the sisters, seal launch, portage (or run?) the last sister, paddle to the old highway bridge.

I don't quite remember the days that we used to red-line the rouge. I think that the rafts tend to start moving to the up-river section at around 100-120; but I'm not very certain about that. From what I have seen the features begin to flush out at around 120. At 80ish many folks run the Dryer to the left of Washing Machine if that means anything to you.

There's not too many of us left that remember the red line and rock. The rock has moved and red line has faded away, given way to online gauges. Although Quebec Whitewater has altered their website, one can still garner that the level is in the "green" or good to go. Their recommendations should be taken as a reference and it doesn't hurt to record the level in a log book or App on the smartphone according to one's ability or comfort level. If the question is, "Can Ryan do it?" I can't see why not.

After all that  ... I see the meet time is fairly late so I will join the adventure. see you at Tims Hortons

Larry

that was a fun adventure
Good level for the group --- 76 cms if you need that for the log book.

someone most likely got a lock on the "downtime" award for the year end party

In what  section and in which feature this this "lock for downtime" occurred?
I know that I visited the washing machine twice (well almost three times) last year...
