...Anybody interested? --C.

Yep. Jon, Larry McNaughton and I are driving up Friday leaving Ottawa at 12:30PM.
Noteworthy from Mike McCubbin:
In discussion with Scott yesterday he has asked me to spread the word to anyone attending the Kipawa River Rally next weekend that people are welcome to tent on the property starting Thursday evening but everyone must vacate the premises by Sunday after paddling as there is a full group coming in for Monday.
A couple of other notes:
There will be no fish fry this year. 😢
The store in Laniel is currently closed so plan appropriately.
There is still some available lodging in Laniel at Chalet Diane and La Lucarne.
Travel safe and looking forward to seeing everyone next weekend.
-
But Félix Touzin responded: Thanks Mike. I spoke with the owners of the Camping / gas station and they said they would be open for the rally. I will try to confirm with them as this would complicate things a lot.

We'll be there friday night!

No, and old man would be more like:
BAH, Stay Home, this river sucks! I hate everything! RAWR!!

Two KWP members headed up on Thursday in one car. Paddling Fri and Sat.
Looking to coordinate shuttle, in advance, if possible.
thanks,
Seamus

Does anybody want to car pool with me? I can use my car. Be up for going Friday afternoon.

The other option is to have Larry jump with you Christian. That would spread people out a bit and would allow at least one car for shuttling since we could put four boats on one car.
Larry? Thoughts?
-
I agree that it makes a lot of sense for me to go with Christian if it is the 4 of us going. I am happy to do that.
Larry
-
Excellent. Christian, please confirm and organize with Larry for carpooling. We'll meet up there.
Seamus, that gives us at least one car for shuttling, should be enough to carry one of you plus me and Christian.
-
thanks Luc,
... will look for you and Christian on Friday night, or Saturday morning depending on your schedule.

I am more than happy to share my car with Larry. Leaving Friday around 12:30 or so would be just fine, I could come pick him up since he lives West of me... 613 355 2470.

Excellent! Sounds like a plan. We're leaving at that time as well, so we should be at the campground around 6:30PM give or take considering a pit stop or two.
-
Ok, Larry--I will call you tonight. I have a phone number ending in 1240 and another ending in 2130, which one is best?

Seems my short interview made Radio-Canada.

Excellent weekend!
My butt is still sore... I found out why they call the rapid Rock... and Roll...
-
did Luc witness someone having an out of boat experience?

I did, but not Jon. Larry, Christian AND I all had an "out of boat experience" ;) Mine was... interesting... let's just say I saw a whole bunch of stars in Hollywood.
-
No, I found a rock at the bottom of rock and roll, with my butt somehow, and then rolled :P

...Seconds after Luc said something to the effect that 'the objective is not to flip (again) at the top of Hollywood' I said to Larry who was behind me: 'Luc will have a story to tell...' Not seeing them anywhere near the take out, I frantically got out of my boat with my rope, ready to run up the trail to where the big hole is, expecting to pull somebody out of it, while neglecting to help Larry, only to notice Jon helping Luc around the point in the lake...
For my part, I blew a roll in the first rapid on the first day. Rock'n'Roll offered a good whack at the level it was... No more 'out of boat' experiences for me though, after rolling practice.
This river is amazing. Only there, if you miss the eddy in Elbow rapid, can you drift by within about a meter and safely observe massive crashing waves and holes. Really cool to think you're this close to disaster yet feel completely safe. Way worth the drive, the bugs, the hangover and the two (actually three, including the hill at Scott's place) Class V portages.
Just mention 'Zipper' to anybody who's been on the river and see them smile ear to ear as they remember... One of the few rapids where you feel sorry if you miss the manoeuvre that makes you hit the huge green wave at the end..
