Anybody up for a run in the next coming weeks? I know that there is Moosefest...anything else? Rouge?
-
The only thing I have planned in the next month is moose fest.
-
The Rouge is always a good option since it is so close and short--important as days get shorter... Moose is another option. This year it seems reasonable, as it is now about 2.1 ft on the gauge: lower runnable... And there is the Movember Race on the Ottawa, lots of fun!

Is the Rouge guage correct, it has rained the last couple days in Kingston, yet the Rouge guage continues to drop into Seven Sisters runnable territory.
If level at Moose is above 2.1 you can only run the top 4 drops of bottom Moose, because the power company draws off water at Agers. The bottom 4 drops are dry.
However, when level drops to 2.1, the power company stops drawing water because the pick up too much sediment which is not good for their power turbines. This allows you to run all 8 bottom Moose drops. Water is less pushy, and some new lines open up, like the middle line on Fowlersville. Runnable down to about 1.9, after which it becomes almost to shallow in the flats.

well they do a release for moose fest.
Also, people were running the sisters last weekend, so they are in.

It's a bit far, but there are releases at Holtwood during the fall. The last one was last weekend and they go into November. It's in Pensylvania, about 8 hours away, but the playboating is supposed to be really good. Adam and I will go check it out soon.

They also have a playboating competition in November.
There are videos online if you want to see what it's all about.
I think it could make for a nice long weekend, especially since the wave at Brother's on the Black in Watertown is not there anymore.

Hole Brothers is still there, I surfed it last Saturday. Route 3 wave (upstream) is washed out, and so is Inner City Strife (downstream below Knifes Edge).
Hole Bros is a green wave surfable from about 2600 cfs down to 1800 cfs. Can surf it up to 3000 if you are in an old school longer playboat. As the level drops below 1800, it becomes more and more hole like. I have riden it as low as 1100 cfs, where you can see the shelf that sets up the hole through the green water above the hole. This feature is in most of the summer, fall, and winter. It washses out in spring, unless there are high flows and it becomes Big Brother :)
Use the American Whitewater entry for Black River - Watertown to Brownville:

yes, route 3 has not been there for years.

Ok, sorry for the confusion... thanks for the update! :)

I've been surfing Garb/Pushbutton every Saturday since it came in (I think back in July).
All are welcome to join me. I am usually there around 13:00 and stay until about 15:00.
