Title: Ottawa river update
Post by: ChristianG on April 17, 2018, 11:38:50 AM
Here's what is on the Ottawa River Regulation website, marked today April 17 (http://www.ottawariver.ca/river-levels-flows.php). Good and bad news?

"Beginning today, website updates will be done on a daily basis. Water levels and flows on the main stem of the Ottawa river from Lac DeschĂȘnes down to the Montreal Region are expected to increase gradually in response to received and ongoing precipitation. However, water levels and flows are expected to remain below normal for this time of the year, over the next few days. Most reservoirs throughout the basin remain empty in preparation for the spring freshet."

So they will begin to update daily, so perhaps good news? But flows will be below normal, and reservoirs are "empty"... Is there enough snow left to melt up north to create a good Champlain Bridge season?

We missed the first water level peak when the local snow all melted in February.
However the typical second peak that comes on the Ottawa is caused by the northern snow melt plus any rain, and it's still all frozen up north.
Surfing at Champlain is delayed this year, not cancelled!  I hope!

Can I suggest that we all go the Champlain and cry - at this point every drop counts! :'(

At the current trend, we'll be surfing at Champlain by tomorrow night.

It is 58.9 on the graph at the moment. I will be checking it out this afternoon and bringing my boat. Hopefully there will be others. Bruce and others were out surfing yesterday and it looked good.
