Title: Rouge Jamboree July 6-8
Post by: ChristianG on June 29, 2018, 10:51:33 AM
Hello all.

I am planning to attend the Rouge Jamboree next weekend. Everybody is welcome. There is a continuous shuttle, so participants can run the river multiple times each day. Info and registration:

https://www.cckevm.org/en/node/3879

It's approximately 100 km from downtown Ottawa (significantly closer than Ottawa or Gatineau rivers) and there is plenty of camping space. It's a great event, a good way to make and renew contact with paddlers from other clubs!

For what it's worth, the river level is currently around 71 m^3/s and dropping. The river is very much playboat-friendly below 80, and IMHO 60 is the perfect summer level for that section.

The river section is called the 'Seven Sisters' section, although nobody agrees on what features count towards that number. It's quite short (no flat water), and features a number of continuous Class II+ rapids with a few Class III+ drops, and some other cool stuff to do as well, like launching off a 5 m rock, or running the last waterfall which is rather easy and safe in fact.

Hoping to see you all there!

Nobody?

I’d be interested in an afternoon run only. I’d be at the put-in around 2:30 p.m. Are people running the river all day? I would bring my son and would want to make sure there are people on the river for safety.

Alain, François et al.

I will drive up Saturday morning, not too early but not too late either (don't know yet exactly). My cell is 613 355 2470. We will hook up with François later during the day! If possible I will register tonight when I get home and camp there Saturday. Weather should be perfect!

I would like to go for the day on Saturday but I do not have a vehicle at all tomorrow.

Is anyone going for the day that has room for me? (Respond here or text me at 613-979-2130 please)

Thanks

Question, I’ve noticed that the Rouge gauge has been going up this week from 65 m3/s to around 72 m3/s today (maybe even higher tomorrow) and I just wanted to know what the Washing Machine rapid looked like at this level? I’m bringing my son who has never done this river and I was wondering if this hole is now sticky and dangerous, in case he swims in it. Maybe it’s never really sticky I don’t know.

Hi.

The Washing Machine is never sticky nor dangerous (at levels we run it), rafters jump into it from the big rock. At 80 and above, one can safely sneak through the Dryer on the left. The difficulty is the Mushroom wave just above the giant eddy, but scouting is easy.

Sorry for the delay, people are back from overseas, so could not commit erlier. I am meeting Larry and Adrian at the put-in at 10:00. Hopefully others too. And we should be around to meet François et al. later too after our 1st run.

daily cost for the Jamboree is now $50 without dinner ... but it includes the return shuttle at the set times.
So is the group registering on-site?

confused ...

I have decided not to do the Rouge at this level with my son. Instead I’ll take him on the Petite- Nation and get him to practice. I’ll take him on the Rouge at a lower level (less pushy, smaller stuff). Anyway, have fun at the jamboree! Cheers

Neither Adrian nor I have registered for the event and are not really expecting to. Others, including Christian, have already registered (or maybe plan to on-site).

I am hoping that there is an option just to pay something for the shuttle or, if not, those not registering for the event can organize an independent shuttle once we are there. Larry, if you are coming and would prefer to just do an independent shuttle, please call or text me at 613-979-2130.

A wise decision. This level was a bit challenging for less experienced folks. But I did encourage people to run the last waterfall. Only to be the only one of the group to bail out of the boat there...
