This outing is a go!
Gauging interest for a trip on the Ottawa Middle Saturday with bike shuttle to respect distancing rules. Meeting at put in at 11 AM (so drop your bike at the take out first). Please reply here if you are up for it.
Stay safe,
Yannick

What are your thoughts on Québec plates parking at the putin? This is certainly not essential travel... Otherwise I think it would be fun.
-
I see Québec plates everywhere in and around Ottawa. Yesterday I paddled from Shirley's Bay to Aylmer (90 minutes round trip), no sign of restrictions. And a half-dozen fishing boats, plus a few other canoes/kayaks. Just came back from bike ride in Gatineau park (biked over 2 different interprovincial bridges). No sign of restrictions. Things are easing off, and definitely so in rural areas. So IMHO no problem to do middle channel. Worst case, Québec people stick river left, Ontario people river right...

Do you have any suggestions for those folks who are "bicycle-challenged"?

The message from the Top Doc has changed to: "If you have to go out, be smart about it."
enjoy, be safe out there.

For those who don't want to do a bike shuttle, you can always pair up with another paddler to share the ride (with masks and Purell). I'll be on my bike.

Bill,
They could install a seat belt in their boat, tie their boat to someone's roof and strap in.
Alternatively,
My ski box has builtin straps,.... climb in.

I'd love to join. I'll bike shuttle.

Thanks Bruce, but I think I'll be a lot safer riding in the back of Mark Harley's truck...

I predict Brats will be popular for socially-distancing paddlers.

Ya I agree, my ski box is about 27-28 yrs old and cracking in places. I was just kidding.
Bruce.

I'm up for the bike shuttle.
The ski box may be needed to get me up to the road after a day's paddle.

Would like to join. Who else is going? Will bring my bike - still debating if a road bike or not?

Road bike should be ok. I've using a commuter bike with 1" wide tires. I think we have about 5 or 6 committed so far.

Ok I know you're going to laugh but where again is the take out? I seem to remember it is a little bit after that campground, with no sign?
Thanks!

That's the correct place. Just after River RUn. There's a Wilderness Tour sign when you turn down the road so you know you're at the right place.

apparently some folks' hippocampus needs refreshment. Have fun.

The bike rack and the bike are mounted and ready to go. See you at 11.
Do we paddle in groups of 5, or did they increase the limit?
Remember to bring dry clothes to bike in (or leave some with the bike).
Dani
The takeout road has a Green 911 number "1298" - see the link below:

Clearly someone is not paddling often enough to just know the takeout.
As for group size, well noone really ever stays together anyways, so should not be an issue.

Great to get back on the water today.
11.5' on the OWL gauge with Lower NoName at it's gnarliest, just ask the unlucky folks practicing "non-paddle" strokes at the bottom.
Nice sized group with physical distancing respected by everyone, haven't ridden in the back of a pickup truck in years.

Amazing day! The water was so sparklyy. I WENT THE WRONG WAY. Left not right. Joy ride to wilderness tours turn off and back. Sorry for any confusion! My hippocampus is in dire need. Jimbo found me biking along, back past the takeout, determined then to make it! Would bike shuttle again, 100%. Today was superb. I think we did a pretty good job distancing. 2m is awkwardly far, so let's keep it awkward!!!
