Title: Rouge Harrington Canyon on Sunday June 14
Post by: ylockhead on June 11, 2020, 05:22:36 PM
PLEASE reply here if you are interested.

The Rouge is currently running at 78 and dropping.  I think it will be around 70 by Sunday unless the river basin gets a lot of rain.  70 is a decent level - pushy enough to make it interesting but easier lines are usually possible.

People can sort out shuttles using this forum.  Those who want the full package can bring bikes.  The shuttle is 11km and there is a lot of gravel and one big big hill.

Please be at the putin for 11 AM.

Frida and I would love to join. I've never done the Canyon - how difficult is it?

The first rapid leading to the Canyon is challenging but there is a walk-around.  Its usually the only rapid that paddlers scout and safety can be set up.  Immediately next is the Canyon and  it has a munchy hole at the very bottom that can be avoided.  The rest of the river has some nice long rapids that are quite continuous where easier lines can be boat-scouted.

Hi Yannick,

I am just curious, is the Chemin walker bridge open this year?
Last June 2019, it was closed.

I don't know.
I don't know.  I usually drive in by Kilmar, not Avoca Rd.

The bridge should still be closed according to: https://www.quebec511.info/en/Carte/Default.aspx

Enjoy Canadian Rivers Day on the Rouge!

How was it Sunday?

Ran the lower section on Saturday. We almost had the river to ourselves. Perfect level around 70 cu-m/s. Needed 1 roll and 1 high brace.

It was great - as soon as I was on the water, I mean. The prelude was a bit of playing hide and seek since I didn't find the take out - or so I thought - and then went to the put-in while the rest of the gang was waiting for me at the take out.
I know I'm famous for my complete lack of orientation, and probably rightfully so, and therefore, the drive-alone COVID policy doesn't really resonate with me.
Sorry again!
