Paddling at Valleyfield Saturday, July 17

Join Us!
I am going and Natalie as well as Kelly and Mike.

Hi All!

Would you like to practice boofing waterfalls, punching holes, doing ferries, upstream attainments, surfing, rolling, all in very clean, clear water! Rinse and repeat! All day! No shuttle either, the course is 300 meters long, with a nice path, picnic tables and amenities on site, including shopping centre and restaurants.

We are leaving at 10 am and plan to be at Valleyfield before noon. An hour plus to get there, three hours of paddling, an hour and a half (stop for Poutine!!) and we are back in Ottawa, 6pm latest, probably earlier, so your evening plans will not be compromised.

Post here if you plan to attend. All COVID-19 protocols in place please.
Ride sharing, if you and your passengers are both double vaccinated and it has been more than two weeks or wearing masks.
No shuttle, no bikes required!

Here below is all the info you need!

See you at my place, 100 Boteler Street, off Sussex Drive, or at Valleyfield Saturday!

Paul:-)

Valleyfield is a Premier Class 2-3 Strech of river. It’s everything you wish the
Pump House should be!

CLEAN WATER!!!!! Bigger water but clean, easy
Beginner lines or more challenging line, your choice :-)
Should you swim there are no nasty rocks and you will simply be in nice calm water in a second or two.

There are some nice surf waves at the bottom, and a very easy portage trail the whole length of the river.

Great Training River for Eddy attainment practice!

Afterwards, on the way back, there is a fantastic Poutine place, Mama Bear, where we always stop for a well-deserved meal.

Post here to join in!

Instructions to get there are posted below:

.
Valleyfield is a town on the St. Lawrence river, just south east of the point where the 401 meets hwy 20 (i.e. just inside the border of Quebec).
The trip, from downtown Ottawa, takes 1:45 to 2:00hrs and is about 170km one way.

From Ottawa, take the 417 towards Montreal.
Exit toward Monkland/Cornwall (exit 58)
Drive to Cornwall (hwy 138) -- approximately 35km.
Follow hwy 138. It turns right then left as you approach Cornwall.
Before getting onto the 401, you can stop at Tim Horton’s in the mall that is just past the 401.
Take the 401 East (toward Montreal).
The 401 turns into Hwy 20 at the Quebec border
Drive 14km after the border and exit at Route 201 Sud towards Salaberry-de-Valleyfield (exit 14)
You’ll cross a few bridges, then you’ll enter Valleyfield. Take a right at Rue Alexandre (a 1 way street)
Turn left on Rue Dufferin.
You’ll see a shopping mall on the right. At the set of lights, turn into the shopping mall (you’ll see a Jean Coutu in the mall parking lot and a McDonalds on the other side of Dufferin)
Drive BEHIND the Maxi grocery store. This will bring you to a small parking area behind the mall and you’ll see the river with gates hanging.

Paul,    You mentioned you wanted to do the Gat, so Bill was checking levels.

FYI

The Gatineau can also be checked here: http://ottawariver.ca/location/maniwaki/
but you need a conversion - it is at 162.58
Bill converted to ~ 8 ft right now (but with the rain, it may go up)

And the Petite has water as well ~ 25 cms.  (We could run after work.)

The Lower Rouge is at 87 (have to check to see how high that is.)

Hi Jim!

Yes, I did but I had so much fun at Valleyfield and Natalie has never been there and would like to paddle it next Saturday.
Jim, please come paddle with us Saturday at Valleyfield, it's been way too long since we paddled together!
We can do the Gat next weekend after when Bill is allowed to paddle!

Paul:-)

The Gatineau River will probably remain low in 2021..... The levels in the Cabonga and Baskatong reservoirs which feed the Gatineau are below average.

I would be up for the Gat the Sat after on July 24 if the levels good :)

Revised time: we are going to leave one hour earlier Saturday.
We leave Ottawa at 9 am
-Reason for this so much fun was had last Saturday that we overstayed.
We still want you to have your Saturday night available for other things so we can arrive back in Ottawa at 6 pm!

See you all at Valleyfield at 10:45 am or at my place at 9 am.
(100 Boteler Street, off Sussex, in the visitor parking lot)

Valleyfield report.

Present and accounted for: Paul (Me)- Kelly-Larry M and Jacques.

Level: LOL-Level is always the same +- inches.
Surfing was great-we exhausted ourselves
Jacques was in his backyard (he knows the course really well) and was coaching us to achieve tighter lines-Helped me a lot with my dynamic ferries in pretty gnarly current.
Larry was in the moving water for the first time this year.
Kelly had a great time.
We stopped at Mama Bear on the way back-Super Burgers and great fries.
We may go back next weekend or even during the week.

End of report.
