Title: Weekend paddling
Post by: Steve Harrington on August 14, 2008, 12:26:30 AM
Looking for someone to paddle the middle channel or lower Madawaska with this Saturday.
A friend and his two sons are going to do their first river trip with my son and I so some
carnage collection help would probably come in handy. My son and I are ok but our friends
will be doing some swimming.
The middle channel would work and is a bit closer but I have never done the Madawaska
so would be interested in doing that if someone who knows that river wants to come along
and show us the way. The level there has jumped up according to the Environment Canada
guage.
Start times are flexible and some carpool spots would be available with us.

DOH !  The Lower Mad is my favorite river, but I can't make it this weekend.  The OPG site says the river has jumped to 2.7 or so.  That's in the 180 cms range (spring levels) and the river will be BIG in some spots.  Still very runnable, but in the places where there is only one channel, there will be some pretty heavy standing waves.  Grrr.  I wish I could go.  Normally the Mad is running at 15-30cms this time of year.  Must of had "some" rain in Algonquin.

I'll definitely be up for running the Lower Mad in September if you're interested. My next few weekends up to Labour Day are booked.

Alan.

Hi Alan:

Send me a message when you're free to go do the Madawaska and I'll go.
