Perhaps we should do that to every Thursday?

Yes and thank you!
Paul :)
-
Graph is heading in the right direction.. for now..
-
Hmmm... Not too optimistic...
-
But the gauge is going up to. I just looked and it is closed 58.70 now. The only problem for is the temperature. Max 2 degrees and maybe snow...
-
Anyone going?? The key will be to dress warmly.
-
As we know so well from last week!
Paul :)
-
I'll be paddling this evening. I just have to find all my cold water gear.
-
I will be there too even tho my motivation kinda went down a little when I set foot outside this morning. But I will not bail.
Annie

A pair of white wool mits were left at the pub. Annie? Sandra? Call me.
--C.

Went this afternoon, wave is OK but the eddy not being in made it a pain... We drove off to sewer to find a nice steep wave...bit tricky to stay on with the shoulder being flushy but gave us a good set up to throw big! :) Fun times... Deschenes shouldve been in but was flushed... kinda weird...
PS: Water is effin cold... colder than last week! hahahaha
;D

Those are mine. Thanks so much. I have been looking for them. Are you going to Whispers tonight? I am not sure I can leave work early enough to paddle, but maybe I can see you there?

S?rieusement??

I hope to be there!
-
Tempted to not show up for work and paddle instead. Especially that i gave my two weeks notice (my second job haha not govt.).. ahhhhrrrrrggghhhh
-
Very cold wind out there today.
wind is also chopping up the face of the wave, making it steeper sometimes, and lumpy at others.
if you are heading out today take your winter stuff... its much colder. Particularly your gloves.
-
Anyone going?? I am trying to decide...
-
Might.. not sure.. might wait for warmer weather haha
-
Might.. not sure.. might wait for warmer weather haha
Tu as tellement maigris que tu dois faire plus attention au froid maintenant hein!!!
-
Was there today. The wave is changing, not as steep nor as smooth as last Thursday for instance. Maybe Simon was onto something, looks like it's at a strange level. And the strong wind from the west didn't help, almost pulled me off the wave...
Still very nice and would get better if the level went up or down! I'll go again tomorrow after work. The water keeps getting warmer, it almost seems...
--C.
-
I'll be there today (Tuesday) and probably Thursday as well.
Cheers,
Adam
-
I was at Whispers tonight with the CdB Crew.
Even if I'm not paddling right now because of a bum shoulder ( crossing fingers that recuperation will be accelerated...), I am amazed at the eclectic and interesting characters in our club, stories, opinions and factoids on every subject under the sun and good camaraderie!
Good Times!
Paul ;D
-
What is Champlain like? Still surfable?
-
29 Celcius saturday, I want to be on or in the water!
so I come to see you Thursday to discuss of the plan for this weekend, probably just at Whisper bar because I have a short meeting at the city of Gatineau at 5:30
Daniel
-
Champlain is still VERY Surfable... awesome level actually! :)
Ill be there at 4.
-
Will be there around 5:00 for a short while.
-
Was there this morning... and yep... pretty awesome surfing. A few ducks and geese almost surfed with me ;)
-
I'll be there too.
-
Wish I could make it, been too busy lately.
-
Just went early this morning before work. Water level is indeed dropping fast. The wave is back at that level where it breaks quite a bit causing boats to want to side surf. It's still quite nice to play in.
The eddy is changing... the downstream current is definitely starting to encroach in the eddy but still easy to get up (especially along the wall).
-
Yup, I noticed that last night - but surfing still good

Does anyone know if its even still in?
-
Yes, still in.
-
Martin,
You can believe Christian or you can believe me and the picture that I took this very evening at Champlain!
Just saying....
Paul ;)
-
Anyone paddling at Champlain tomorrow (Thu., Jun 13) night and/or Whispers-ing afterwards?
Looks like the water level (http://www.wateroffice.ec.gc.ca/graph/graph_e.html?stn=02KF005) is holding up, at around 59m.
I'd be glad to join in, if anyone can offer a ride from Gladstone Ave (http://goo.gl/maps/Oflsb) (in exchange for a beer, say! :)
Cheers,
Peter
p.s. Alternatively, if anyone is paddling the Ottawa (or other beginner to intermediate level destination) today through Friday, or Mon-Wed next week, I'd love to join! Happy to help with gas money, and to set up a shuttle via bike (if we can squeeze the bike in too, that is)!
-
Might go tonight if weather is nice. Do you want me to call you? --C.
-
Thanks, Christian, but I have an appointment downtown at 6:30 tonight.
(I was probably being too optimistic about the "today" part in my "p.s." :)
-P
-
Ok. But I'll go regardless!
--C.
-
Wave is still good.
-
I'm plannin' to be there tonight - 5:30 ish ...
-
Yep. Plus I'll give Peter a ride there.
-
Sweet; and the weather (http://www.theweathernetwork.com/hourly-weather-forecast/canada/ontario/ottawa?ref=qlink_obs_hourly) forecasts (http://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/on-118_metric_e.html) have now both dropped the "possibility of a thunderstorm Thursday evening".
Let me know what time, Christian!
-Peter
-
je serai la!
-
Wow! Paddling at Champlain above 59 m in mid-june!
--C.
-
Sadly, the water levels are dropping. Today, no real recirculating eddy, and the wave was almost non-existent. But what a spring this year! The wave was surfable from mid-March to mid-June! Essentiall 12 weeks of Champlain bridge surfing in 2013! Not seen since 2008. We should be able to surf Sewer Wave until August!

August eh? I might yet surf again in downtown Ottawa this year:)
Paul
-
I sure hope so Paul :-)
-
Tomorrow July 4th I will bring a sea kayak to Champlain bridge Bate Island. I want to try the 1st wave! There is still stuff to surf, and liquids to drink at Whispers. Some will be at the pub around 7 pm, but a more realistic time is after 8:00 pm. Everyone welcome! --C.
-
Not up yo pasdling yet but I'll
See you there!
Paul
-
When does sewer wave come in? Or has it come and gone?
-
I'm going to check it out later today. I'll let you know but I would think that it would still be in for front surfing and carving.
Paul
-
It has come and gone from what I heard.
We were on it on tuesday and it was dropping.
Steve checked it out this morning and its apparently gone.

Gone really depends on what you mean. Not big, no foam pile, not good for air tricks, shallow. It's there and small but very surfable if front surfing and carving is your thing, even spins.
Paul
-
...in a fast long boat perhaps, but short playboats would have a hard time staying on the wave...
There must be something at Champlain still, maybe?
-
Last Thursday evening before the big weekend shindig to discuss, firm up plans at Whispers tonight plus the club nachos are free! 7:30 ish!
Paul:)
-
The level was .5 yesterday so we ran the main. Great day!
Adam
-
Pumphouse at 18:00. In case it diseappears again... Then refreshments at Whispers.
-
I'll come by too!
Paul
-
The water was low but it was still fun to play at the pumphouse for the first time this year! Thanks for the idea Christian!
-
Yeah, it was deemed too low and we went to the middle waves at Champlain instead.
-
Anybody going to Champlain tonight? I would bring a sea kayak to play in the waves...
--C.
-
Me. Biil and Tibor Will ne there at 6Pm
Paul
-
Anybody hitting the water tonight, 18:00 or so at Bate Island? Or straight to Whispers?
-
Je vais aller faire un tour ? Whisper 7:30
-
Bate Island 18:00, with a sea kayak for a change!
-
Bates Island at 6PM maybe even with a boat this time. Whispers afterwards!
Paul ;D
-
Can I rent your Core paddle? 2$/hour, I promise I will test it very thoroughly, you will know by the end of the evening how strong it was--oops--is...

-
Ok
Paul

Bate island or Remic? I will bring gear to Mike at Bate Island, but can go to Remic afterwards!
--C.

See you at 6:00 at Bate Island.

Hey, just got my new playboat. Anyone keen for a play session on Dessert wave Thursday?
-
I would be down for an after-work session, if you can handle going with a relative newbie...
Hey, just got my new playboat. Anyone keen for a play session on Dessert wave Thursday?
-
I surfed the Remic wave last Thursday. The wave itself is stellar: smooth, glassy and very friendly... if you can catch it that is. And the water level is too high to walk back up in the middle of the river, you need to land on the Quebec side every time to get back up.
The Remic rapids are small and beginner-friendly, but I would say reliable rolling is required: While it would be completely safe (there are islands below), a swim there could be very long and involve a very long walk back...
I'd be up for a few circuits tomorrow, it's worth it when you're on the wave!
--C.
-
Nice, what time? I'd suggest we meet on Begin street at 5h30 PM or so. Is the rock where we used to wait emerged? That was our biggest problem last time I went there, we had to time approach to leave enough time for the first surfer on the wave, yet still be not too far in the case of a swim, we could barely see the surfer from upstream.
-
Daniel (cool farmer) and I will be at Bates island around 6pm
Caroline
-
If you want to surf Remic, you either park where Sewer Wave is (Begin st. in Gatineau), or in the Remic Rapid parking lot near the lookout bunker, on the Ottawa river parkway. If others want to try the Remic wave, the latter is where I will be at 18:00. Cheers!

Mr. T says: "I pity the fool who doesn't show up at Champlain and Whispers tomorrow!"
Paul ;)

But visit to the Pumphouse first--both pumps are on! A different kind of 'pump house', no beer...
See you at the Pump House!

Paul, it is NOT acceptable to abuse administrator privileges by modifying other members' previously posted when they were posted as personal, i.e. not collectively. I already asked you to refrain from doing that. I you want to add something to a discussion, there is a 'Reply' button. For the record, I did not write the last sentence in this message.

Weird... Paul assures me he used the 'Reply' button. It appears that his reply ended up appended to my message instead of on its own, through a glitch in the forum. I know that the newest updates to the forum were applied recently--maybe it's related. Let's monitor this!

Hi folks,
My older daughter, fresh back from a year in Vietnam, wants to paddle at Champlain this Thursday (Sept 5).
So if you can make there for around 6:00pm, the more the merrier...
Bill
-
Hey Bill, just in case... Jon Ward, Steve Turner and myself are heading to the Pumphouse tomorrow night. I'm planning on heading to Whisper's afterwards of course and I believe Jon and Steve as well. So we'll see each other there I'm sure otherwise.

I'll be at Champlain around 18:00.
-
A group of us will be at Whispers tonight (Sep 26) between 7 & 7:30

Larry
-
Sorry, can't make tonight but next week should work better
-
Is anyone else going to be there?
Adam
-
Would anybody be interested in getting out early tomorrow evening (4:30 or 5:00) at the Pumphouse? I want tot test out a boat and I am also a wee bit itchy to get out at something.
If that is a go then perhaps a bit of an earlier meetup at Whispers. 6:30-6:45ish??
The Britannia gauge is reading 58.2, which is too low for Sewer Wave, but not by much.
-
I was planning on being at Whispers after 7 (maybe 7:30) if anyone else will show
Adam
-
Adam (C1) and myself will be at the Pumphouse around 4 pm today. That will make 3!

As my last act of the year as outgoing PR Relations Exec Member I'd like to invite you all one last time to Whispers Pub this Thursday, December 18, to get together with your fellow paddlers to toast a great paddling season and raise a little Christmas cheer!
Starts at 6:30PM!
Bill will be there to reserve a table or three.
Hope to see you all there!
Paul :)
