Title: Spring Paddling: Riviere Achigan Saturday April 27
Post by: Bill Schlarb on April 25, 2013, 10:28:02 PM
Hi folks,

For those interested, a group of us are headed to the Lower Laurentians to run the Achigan.
It`s a class 3-4 river with a mix of pool/drop and continuous rapids.
You can find a description at http://192.77.51.51/~cleduc/Canot/05/AchiganLeduc2003.pdf

Plans are to meet at the Tim Horton's in Saint-Colomban at 10:15AM then head over the river at 10:30AM
GPS co-ordinates:  45.705164,-74.095869

Google maps suggests you give about 1 3/4 hours drive time from downtown Ottawa
The usual caveats about spring paddling and cold water gear apply...

Please feel free to use this thread to arrange rides etc.

If you have any questions send me a PM or give me a call at (613) 224-8507 after 7:00 PM Friday

Bill

Be careful guys, there is tons of trees in the Laurentides this year. I ran the Achigan 2 weeks ago and they were trees in almost every rapids.  There was always a way to avoid them but one have to react quickly. I'll be in the Laurentides too but I don't know what is the plan yet.

Have fun.

I have room in my car for one more person!

I'll have to make sure I don't break my toe tonight...

FYI, I'm driving and picking up Steve Taylor on the way. Larry, if you're still in need, I'm sure we can pile a third boat on top of our creekers. Just text or call me. 613-799-9317.

somewhere between not too high and not too low

or here

Never knew there was a gauge in New Glasgow as per quebecwhitewater
Info debit uses a fudge factor

Yep. Early day, meeting at 9:30 in marmora at the subway.

I don't know the river super well, so don't expect me to lead. Might be scouting.

I foresee  that micro-brewery in St Jerome becoming a regular part of spring paddling in Les Laurentides. Perfect finish to the day!

Nobody tells me to stop paddling... ;)

I'll try to work on it during this week. Give me a few days. I've also got more carnage footage from Beaver Creek, ON from yesterday!

Ha! Ha! I hope it's not just carnage, but includes a few successful runs too... Like the Bridge rapid! --C.

Oh it will. I usually try to combine the highlights which includes good and bad runs from anyone I managed to get a good shot of (assuming there wasn't a large drop of water on the lens for).

Btw, if anyone doesn't want to be featured in one of my videos, please let me know the day of the trip! I don't mind omitting someone at all, but I would like to know ahead of time so that I don't have to redo all of my video editing. This should apply to anyone else filming... just give them a heads up but before they head home when it may be too late.

I can send you a picture of Paul that you can paste on the face of those who opted out after editing... That way we can make him 'paddle' while he recovers from his injuries. It would look like this:

Steve,

I'm interested in an Upper Pet run for Saturday.  Here's a video club member Ray Canton shot a few weeks back on a high water.  Some quality beatdowns: http://vimeo.com/1325795.

You asked me about my favourite runs.  This is one of them.
