Every Thursday is Paddling at Champlain Club Night
Forecast for this Thursday - warmish
Paddle: Bate Island 6 PM(or earlier) til dusk
what to expect:
cold water ...
surfing waves
lineups
what to bring:
cold water gear
whitewater roll ... don't leave home without it
patience ... for the lineups
Pub Nite - après paddle-8pm on...friends making paddling plans for the weekend!
Where: Whispers .. in Westboro (corner of Tweedsmuir and Richmond)
Wing nite and free nachos for club members .

The front and back waves are good right now for those that want a shorter/no lineup :) Great for a bit of front surfing and loosening up the hips.

The 2014 Champlain bridge wave season is over. But the water is warmer! So we continue to meet on Thursdays at Bate Island for rolling, bracing or whichever practice needs to be done! Then refreshments at Whispers pub. See you all!

Fell of my push-scooter last night after the Netherlands-Argentina game at Elgin Street, the 1 beer + water was NOT the cause, just carelessness crossing the eddy line from sidewalk to road :-[ My doctor this afternoon advised NOT kayaking tonight, or this weekend even if the x-ray tomorrow (Friday) does not show a fracture.
I one-hand loaded my kayak into my Forester this afternoon intending 2CU (to see you) all at Bate Island and Whispers if paddling even gently would be OK. No go, c'est dommage.

I will be starting to hit up the pumphouse for creekboat eddy practice every thursday around 4 for a while if anyone wants to join.

Expect to be in Ottawa for the Thursday night paddle at Champlain Bridge. Want to confirm that others will be there around 6:00 pm.??

I highly recommend pumphouse over champlain for those that want to paddle tomorrow night... More variability at pumphouse, and this evening the level was quite high, making for some good edging and transition practice, challenging attainments, and even a couple of surfs. The new wave sucks btw. Poorly "designed" and poorly placed! (...Illegal too...) But interesting nonetheless. Really dynamic eddies and current transitions.
I was there tonight and will probably be there tomorrow again around 5:00/6:00ish (tending to be later in the evening than earlier, but that might change). If they do the same thing as today, the water will probably be turned off until somewhere between 4:00 or 5:00 or so, but I don't know the exact time. If I'm there, I'll be paddling an orange and grey Pyranha Loki.

There is parking at at Bronson Park on Wellington Street... Unfortunately I can't attach a map, but if you let me know what direction or what road you'll be coming on, I'll send you a PM with directions.

rumour is that there's a shut down this week for maintenance at the pump station

I was talking to a guy from RR yesterday, and he said they shut it of during the day, but turn it back on in the evening, sometime between 4:00 and 6:00... I guess it's possible they'll do things differently tonight, but I paddled there yesterday from about 6:30 till almost 8:30, and the guy I was talking to (Glen _______?) seemed to imply it was the same for previous nights and would be again for the coming weeknights.

I am at the top of the run at pumpuse. not much water. Parked on the srreet. black ford ranger with a dog house on the back with a kayak in it
