Title: Mack Fest 2017
Post by: jonyak on March 28, 2017, 09:00:47 AM
Hey all!

Luc and I will be heading down to mack fest on friday april 7 and paddling the saturday and the sunday.

Everyone is welcome to join us.

As for options:

We were looking at a couple of things.

If there are some beginners, we could do the Salmon saturday and the step it up to the beaver on sunday.

If everyone is really keen, we could the gauntlet: Beaver and the Upper Black on saturday and the Skootamata and Fish hatchery on sunday.

Or we could do any combination of these rivers.

Let me know if you want to join and we can meet up.

I'm very interested. Weather and water depending.

To be determined whether I plan a Friday night trip, or just Saturday morning.  Also to be determined, is Saturday, or 2 days.

Well expect poor weather, cold, and highish water.

Have fun! I'll be in Toronto that weekend...

Keep an eye on the Skootamata gauge!

I'd be interested in doing the Saturday run! I've never done any of the highway 7 rivers so it will be nice to try something new.

I would  be interested on paddling Saturday assuming the weather is half decent

Hey guys,

Simon is interested as well for Saturday. What time should we leave Ottawa to meet up with you? Depending on the start time, I may leave on Friday.

So the plan right now is to do the salmon on Saturday. It's an easy class 2-3 river. People usually meet at bunkers hideaway and get on the river after that. 10 in the morning at bunkers is probably a safe bet.

Our group will be there for 10.

Bunkers is here: 239 Station Rd
239 Station Rd, Marmora, ON K0K 2M0

On Sunday we will be doing the beaver Creek. A fun 3-4 river.

I will add, if you plan on joining us for sure, please ensure to let us know here. Make sure we don't leave without you.

There is also interest to run the Beaver in Saturday.  I'm sure decisions will be made later in the week.  It's just about 2.25 hour drive to Marmora, so meeting around 7 to arrange boats and carpool would put us in marmora around 9:30

Hey guys,

I will meet up for sure with you guys at Bunkers for 10 am. I'll confirm day/departure time with Simon. Where were you suggesting meeting up Sbdep?

Sounds great, excited to see the season get under way! I'm interested in attending both days and will meet at the carpool Saturday, if that's good.

Cheers,

Paul

I'd be down for the Beaver Saturday, or any other destination people are planning (ideally class 3-4). Is the car pool meeting place in Ottawa, or should I go to the bunker for 10? I'm currently traveling alone and plan to bring both a creeker and playboat (2006 Subaru Forester, black), camping Saturday night. Recommendations?

I will have a couple newer paddlers, so I will definitely be taking them down the salmon on saturday. You can set up a meeting for the beaver with others that are looking to do it on saturday.

There are usually large groups going from bunkers.

Hi All,

I am hoping to make it out there for both days if I can shake this cold that has gotten the better of me over the last couple of days. I'd be likely camping, and from what I can tell (I haven't been to the fest nor any of these rivers before) the place to camp is at Bunkers "Camping is available at Bunkers for $10/person/night for tents and trailers or anything else you want to use to sleep in"
http://www.whitewaterontario.ca/ (currently the top post on that page)

Levels: Considering the current flows that are seriously on the rise, the mildish weather, and the forecasted rain (mostly for Thursday), the river levels are likely to be higher than Snoop Dog by the weekend. With that in mind the Salmon might be a good first paddle since like forever for me. But I'm flexible.

Hey Dave, yep, Bunkers is the place to camp. We have a motel but many others camp there. It's also where the evening festivities happen and meeting point. So convenient location for you of course.

As for rivers, totally! Loving this weather and what's funnier is that everyone at work thinks I'm crazy because I'm the only one excited by this prospect. :D

Daniel and I will be there Saturday. Just wondering is the put-in before the Bunkers?  If that is the case we could meet you at the put-in instead?
Title: Re: Mack Fest 2017
Post by: lafreniere.luc on April 05, 2017, 07:40:56 PM
Yes, the put in is WAY earlier than bunkers. Here is the exact spot, if you use street view you can see the very small gravel parking lot. https://goo.gl/maps/YEkbDarN9sK2

Bunkers is in Marmora: https://goo.gl/maps/X5qb3sHEqfx

The only issue is I'm not sure what time we'll be at the put in, but I would suspect around just past 11 since it's about an hour drive from Bunker's.

We will be at the put in for 11:00 if there is any change in the plans you can text Daniel or me.

If we decide to paddle the Black, instead of the Beaver, we'll see you at the put in for 11:00.   It will be a fun weekend to paddle.

Hi Gwenne, I think that the talk in general has been about meeting at the put-in for the Salmon at 11:00

Luc, if you folks are going to be coming from Marmora then you might want to be taking a route that takes you past the take-out first. Google's recommended route does that anyhow:
https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/44.5906722,-76.9976324/Marmora,+ON/@44.6097992,-77.3451455,10z/data=!4m9!4m8!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x4cd35aaab7438683:0x4e39d97f58e0592!2m2!1d-77.682106!2d44.482947!3e0
That route looks like it is only 2 minutes faster to the put-in, but it goes by that take-out. Perhaps the Ottawa crew could ditch their boats/gear at the put-in and then head to the take-out for a pick-up. We can solidify any details later; just throwing that out there as an option for now.

Hey Dave, our car is very full. 4 people. Don't think that's going to work sadly. Nice idea though...

Yes to 11 for Salmon put in, Saturday.

Most likely Beaver for us Sunday, time and meet up TBD.

So the ONLY person that may still be coming is Dave? Dave? Lol just want to know if we need to find someone else for shuttle since at the moment, we have one car... Us.

Yup, I am still in. Hopefully the St. Regis will bounce back up next weekend.

I haven't heard Elizabeth, Simon, Paul (he was more for the Beaver I know), Marc and Daniel bail on us yet. I know that Daniel has posted about going on the NY trip, but he gets easily excited at this time of the year and needs an assistant to help him with his calendar.

Elizabeth told me not to wait for them but they hadn't decided yet. So at the moment we're relying on you Dave for shuttle.

So we'll still meet you at the put in for 11. Hopefully Elizabeth and Simon show up.

Hey guys,

We're also going to be bailing on the Salmon and doing the Regis. Sorry for bailing at the last minute.
