The Ottawa River Runners is looking for youths 14 and under who have previously completed an ORR summer camp or those who possess basic whitewater skills. The 2010 ORR slalom recruitment camp will take place at the Pumphouse from June 26th-27th and will be free of charge. Boats (plastic), paddles, helmets, skirts, and PFDs are provided.
If your child is interested in regular instructional sessions, the ORR Cadets I program will begin regular paddling sessions on June 29th. The ORR Cadets I program will cost $300 and will include two weekly coached paddling sessions starting June 29th through August 26th, a river run on August 28th, and weekly paddling sessions for the month of September. Other club event and river run opportunities are also available to youth in this program.
The program is geared to youth interested in both recreational and competitive paddling. Plastic boats, as opposed to slalom boats, are used for the majority of the first season.
We already have an established group of Cadets (Cadets II Program) steadily improving their WW skills on the slalom course and on river runs, and we are looking to build the Cadet I program with some more youth who have been recently exposed to ww paddling. This is a great opportunity for youth to paddle with kids of their own age, on an ongoing basis, in the heart of town.
