Actually, you might be able to paddle up from Houle St., but you'll need to work your way up...

The NCC have a nice parking and the end of Houle street with a 'boat' ramp ... public access

Daniel, don't park on rue Houle, if you put in there you won't be able to paddle back up: it's very shallow and dirty, and you will end up walking up the bike path with your boat anyway... Best to park at the corner of Martel and Rosenes if you can, it's a lot less trouble trust me. I'll be there at 18:00 tomorrow.

Bill, Dave, Kelly et al.: And Thursday too.

Cheers!

Ruins

More photos.

First, the location of the famous Heavy D wave present at REALLY high water. The wave forms close to the end of wall on river left of the channel. Notice metal bars sticking out of the water. In fact, there are 5 such metal structures above the Heavy D channel (second photo). There are also deadly strainers in the structure (third photo), which is itself slowly disintegrating, as compared to, say, when I was there in 2007.

Last, a cool view of Lac Deschesnes and the Nortel building, from the island next to the ruins. The Deschesnes rapids themselves are nothing special right now, very shallow and filled with seaguls. A good proportion of the total river flow is actually passing through the ruins, hence the reason they are there in the first place...

JJ wave pictures

Here are some. The put-in, the wave, John Rathwell on it, and the eddy next to it. The holes in the structure, seen in the 1st and last photos, are new since 2007, likely a result of the crazy high spring of 2008.

Paddlers are below the ruins at all times, and the water is relatively deep below the wave (i.e. your paddle MAY scrape the bottom during a botched roll, but definitely not your head).

Parking on Rue Martel at the south end of Chemin Vanier, which itself is off Boulevard de Lucerne, west of the golf course (parking:  45?22'50.82"N,  75?48'2.62"W).

Let's try JJ this week. I can go any day after work. Tomorrow, for instance.

Hey guys,

Anyone interested in Wed or Thu after work? It's on my way home. It would be great for me with my limited schedule.
