Hi
I've never actually run it, but I've driven by it for years on the way to the cottage. So, just some observations/2nd hand knowledge...
First thing I heard was, run it with someone who's run it before!
At low water you can see that there are a lot of ledges, some sort of look to me like the nasty straight and flat low head dam kind of ledges, so keep that in mind. You may want to take a look at low water and get a feeling for the underlying river bed. The run-out stretch to the bridge is very bony at low levels.
There may be rebar around, but that's an assumption and probably not an issue at higher water.
LOW HEAD DAMS AND RIVER HYDRAULICS--RECOGNITION IS THE KEY
http://whitewatersolutions.net/lhdam.aspxYou can stop in at the parking lot of the, I think it's a veterinary hospital, on the north side of the river (Hwy 307) for a middle view of the stretch of rapids. Off hours would be the best time. A little further up on the left is an ice cream stand and the only "public" launch spot I can think of.
The other thing I've heard is that there are a couple of ledges on river left that canoeists like to play in, practicing eddy turns and such. I think you can see them just upstream from the Vet hospital vantage point.
Maybe someone on boatwerks would have further info.
Cheers,
John
