As I wrote, maybe I was a bit too sensitive, due to some incidents over the years which I assure you, Luc and others in this discussion, did NOT involve you...

Just to make it clear: keep making movies! I am planning to show this one to friends and even my mom, as it gives a very good idea of the crazy steep run that it is!

Fire... marshmallows... smores....

But in all seriousness, I just wanted to be clear that I was getting very conflicting requests on my end, or at least, it was appearing that way. I can't put names and not put names all at the same time plus record people and not record people too. Otherwise, it was looking like I would have to make these videos only about me or none at all. Both of those options are very sad in my opinion and would rather showcase our accomplishments (and failures...).

I really do hope you know Christian, as well as everyone that has ever helped me down rivers (and there are many of you) that I am VERY appreciative for the help. I usually thank people directly, I believe I have done that with you specifically on many occasions but I have to admit, I don't remember saying thanks after this event. So MERCI! Without people bringing us down, we wouldn't have ran that section very easily. It was the main reason why we waited to come down with CdB since we knew that you guys would be willing to take us under your wing (Jon and I both discussed this and opted to wait a week for this very reason). It is a really nice touch and a personal complement to many of you. You know who you are.

As for the YouTube video, thanking people generically is a really easy thing to do and I will endeavour to do this in the future. It has been changed on the description of this video.

Hey! That wasn't intended to spark a fire. In fact I would rather not have my full name in the description of a YouTube video, I'm not a celebrity yet...

Maybe I am just a bit sensitive after a couple incidents when showing people a new river, and enduring a general lack of grattitude for the time and energy spent offering guidance, safety, and collecting bodies and floating gear...

The video is the official 'internet presence' of that day, so to speak, and care must be taken to avoid giving the wrong impression. No names necessary, just a passing acknowledgement that others have helped make the event happen would be fine.

That's just my opinion of course. But I wouldn't be surprised if in the past a few experienced paddlers have stopped bringing new people to the rivers they enjoy precisely to avoid this kind of hassle. And that's too bad, really. Cheers!

Lol.

I could have been in it, but when I get nervous I just want to go for it.

Thanks to Jaques and Christian for going first and making sure we all made it down. ;D

Well, if anyone else was actually recorded on my camera, then I may have put their names. But since I don't have any recordings of anyone else, I'm not going to start naming everyone that ran that day but doesn't even show up in my video. If somebody wanted to be filmed, they need to let me know and make arrangements. I really don't mind, but it has to be planned out, otherwise, it's whatever I end up recording which included Alex since she was always last to run things and I was second last. By that logic, I'd have to go to every video I've ever done and start enumerating everyone's names that paddled at CdB Newcomer's Day for example because I probably said "Cindy Doyle's first time on Garburator" and yet there were many others surfing it for the first time that day. They just didn't get recorded. Besides, there is a considerable amount of work in doing video edits, probably why a lot of people don't bother recording. The filming is the easy part, the editing afterwards can be a major pain. I find it worthwhile personally, but I do spend many hours on these videos. Usually I accompany such videos with a blog post where I describe the day... but I have been told before NOT to put names in my videos or my blog posts. So I'm going to go with what I think is reasonable since I'm the one making the video edits. I've also been requested NOT to record certain people which as you can imagine, is quite difficult when you happen to pan around them as part of a group shot or something of the sort. Since Alex was featured in the video AND I happen to know she wanted this video, I gladly obliged and placed her name along with it. Notice that it was also not within the actual footage and instead along the description of the YouTube video. The worse thing ever is when I've incorporated a text lower third in the video of who we're watching and then find out once the video has undergone transcoding for hours and then many hours uploading to YouTube and "processing" that they would like to have their names removed. This requires that I delete the video on YouTube, edit the source video, re-transcode the thing and re-upload again. In the process, any links that were shared no longer work and people complain that the video is gone. Rant over.

With that in mind.... this in NO WAY reflects on a lack of appreciation for those people doing safety. I saw many, many people on the shore line with throw bags ready to go, people watching to indicate when the way was clear and fellow paddlers such as yourself Christian ready at the bottom to save our sorry butts if/when one of us swam. With that, I definitely thank everyone that allowed me and the rest to run this section. It was incredible! But no, I won't be naming everyone unless each person explicitly requests that I name them in the description. With that in mind, anyone want me to add their name in the description? I"m happy to oblige.

Good video, definitely gives an accurate idea.

Now,

"My first ever run on the Eagle section of the Beaver river, New York along with Alex Maggs."

Only two names? If it's 'first time', add Jon Ward: at least five paddlers were in the group IIRP, including two who went down first to wait in each pool in case something bad happened. After seeing Chris swim there with a broken paddle, having someone there seemed likea good idea...

hi

Not really much to the story, other than Sean's second attempt at the boof location was more successful than his first.
I just happened to be in position with a throw rope just in case.

Larry

Thanks to Larry a perfect throw that kept me from getting recirculated.

Definitely a great day!

Quick video edit I made of the Eagle section. Running that section was indeed the most epic run I've ever done. I think a few others can agree with that. http://youtu.be/6ogzqV-fC_4
