Intense vid! Not sure I'd survive "upright" in that wave hole! If we go to Valleyfield this summer we should definitely go take a look-surf!

Melocheville wave: "Croque-Mort"

I mentioned to Bill about paddling this wave once, just past Valleyfield.  I've since identified it and thought I'd bring it up.

Here's a Google Map of it someone made.  Google Earth shows a slightly magnified view.

If you Google "Melocheville Croque-Mort" you'll find a few posts about it, including a crazy Youtube video of someone surfing it on a boogie board which actually gives a pretty good idea of what it's like.

Apparently, it's only good when the gates are open. There is a warning in an old boatwerks thread that if the gates are closed or the level is not right there is a "killer" hydraulic there, so be warned.

It's a park and play wave/hole just off Rue Emond, easy to get to.  The water pours through a weir maybe 10m wide.  It is BIG and FAST.  You drop in from the right hand side after sidling up the concrete wall, then hold on for dear life.  It's somewhat reminiscent of Garb, but with probably a bigger foam pile.  I remember doing, to my complete surprise and not entirely on purpose, 3 nicely linked cartwheels in a 7 1/2 foot Inazone 230.  Did I mention the hole was big?

Not for me anymore, but I'm sure some here would enjoy it.

Cheers,
John
