My Skin-on-frame "project"
« Reply #6 on: August 17, 2010, 11:19:14 AM »
Skin-on-frame sea kayak is not moving.
The weather is too nice. Every time I have free time, the weather is nice and then I go surfing.

As it stands, the frame is not glued, so i could dismantle what I have done so far.
The plan has always been to get it out through the window and hand it over to someone on the ground, one level down.
I am also relinquishing this apartment at the end of September...

The guy's name is Simon.
He indicated using CAD to do the design.
He was also saying that a WW kayak was a team effort as it involved designers and athletes input, but he could design a sea kayak from CAD to mold in one shot. They use ALU casting for the molds as it is fairly cheap compared to ciment molds (like Eskimo).

Simon was pointing to a spot on the seam about knee level. I think it was a Booster, but not so sure anymore.
Anyway, there is a lot of Riot kayaks around here and the more of less all look the same to me.
(Except maybe the Glide...A freakingly long surfing boat with a completely flat bottom with a good rocker)
(Earlier in the summer I also saw a couple of those new plastic SUP from Corran, Had the chance to try it out and ...)

When did Corran transition over to design those italian kayaks (Dragorossi)?

Hi Louis.

I have a Booster 60 right now, has suffered a few blows. I used to have a 55, also suffered many blows (the thick Riot stickers came off!). My friend Ivan has one too, and that one did Moosefest, I saw photos. So the boats are prety sturdy. Can you describe the location of this famous blow, so that I can evaluate the claim? I can send a picture of it too for you to indicate on... The boat was designed by Mr. Corran Addison, BTW: was he the designer you talked to, or the other fellow Arnd?

On a different topic, how's that Skin-on-Frame coming along? Once completed, will it be too long to come out of your appartment?

Some sensitive location on the seam where a simple blow would split the boat in half like a well oiled zipper on a teen aged girl.
Got the mental picture?

Well, after spending most of the week on a business trip I took off from work early on Friday and went to Big Joe and co.
The next morning, Elise wanted to work on her roll - the ex-boyfriend spending the WE at WT on a course and indicating he was now able to roll after the first day had absolutely nothing to do with it....sure...
Anyway, Elise managed to level the playing field.

Then I was back to Big Joe for lunch and the whole afternoon with a local and excellent paddler (TJ L'heureux).
He used to work at Riot and was a paddler buddy of Tyler Curtis and all.
Riot closed its doors on a claimed bankruptcy and moved to China, many employees from Riot were not happy about that.
I also met the only remaining Montreal based Riot employee, the boat designer. Who had enough as well and quit 2 weeks ago.
Fun chat while waiting for Big Joe to clear up.
An interesting trivia on the Booster...where can a single blow on the hull can destroy that kayak?

Resting today...
Ah, yesterday, I managed to do a full loop. Except no body saw it.
OK, it was completely wet and fully submerged off Gaetanne...
Any, Big Joe, Gaetanne are big features.

Sandra and others,
I've got a good bearing on the descent to the Big Joe area now.
So, like Bob Barker used to say:"Come on down!".
