Registration is now open for the event at:
http://www.canadacupkayak.com/

The Garb is in at present and WT is offering free camping starting Aug 15th for all competitors.

Watching the pros throw down the tricks is interesting to watch ... for about 10 minutes or so ... then I get bored

The competition really has nothing to do with access to the river (free courtesy of OWL rafting), since WT has been hosting these events since the days of Whip-its and much longer boat. These comps used to be held at Mcoys but with the boats getting shorter and aerial moves possible, the Garb is the 1st choice not only for the paddlers but for spectators as well.

Good for the sport, maybe .... but SUPs are now the "in" thing

Although it is true that this will most likely create long line-ups, I am happy to see both the Canadian and world events held on one of our home rivers. That says a lot about the quality of the whitewater we have.

This is good for the sport. I am sure the fact that it is so popular has something to do with having free access to put-in and take-out, great lunch spots and a (mostly) clean river.

Let's wish they will all be gone by September and that Garb will still be in then so we can play in it forever. ;)

Not great news. I guess a lot of people have been waiting for it. It was great 2 yrs ago but it barely came in last year.

It's been slow to come in this year. The level was 0 on Thurs and - 1/8 today. It took a bit of skill to get on it on Thurs. Hopefully the level keeps droping.

Well not really, but it might as well be with the long queues leading up to the Team Trials.

The 2014 CanoeKayak Freestyle Team Trials will take place on Garbarator Wave on the Ottawa River from August 30 to 31. The trials will be used to select the team to represent Canada on home water at the 2015 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships. The Championships will be held at the same location as the Trials – an hour and a half drive west of Ottawa.
