Hi all.
Sunday, Ivan and I decided to try the wave that's in between the two walls closest to shore at the Deschesne ruins:
http://cityofottawawhitewater.blogspot.com/2007/04/deschenes-rapids-mediumhigh-water.htmlInspected it last year at low water (see photo, the wave forms in the middle of the view): definitely nothing at the bottom of this channel: no rocks or man-made stuff. So a completely safe spot to play in.
Only three of us there, including another CdB member, Carl. Water is deep (for now), wave is fun and easy to catch, but the eddies on either sides are QUITE small. If you miss, you need to go down 25 m, get out and go back up on foot. So it can be a bit tiring, but it's so close. A good park'n'play spot, you walk less than 100 m on a bike path to the put-in. The put-in is above the end of the concrete wall, easy to find. Parking at the corner of Martel and Rosenes streets.
As the water level is going down, it will turn into a small hole with more manageable eddies. My guess: this weekend might be the end of it, so if you want to try it, it's time now. Cheers!
