Just to clarify on Larry's description of events; I believe I actually succeeded in getting back in my boat (or at least got most of the way in), but a water filled creek boat tends to sink into a near vertical position when one enters it while still in the water and I was regretably forced to abandon ship yet again.

Louis, it was worth it just to discover this beautiful river! Running was just a bonus and I'm glad I ran it. I should really get over this cautious thing I have (Chickinitis I think is the medical term.. ::))

Next step is to run suicide, maybe....(Chickinitis... flaring up! ) and to do the upper Pet with Bill and the gang!

Paul :-)

ok the synopsis

Mike tried a different line through Railway Rapids during his 2nd practice run. The River spat him out with a bruised shoulder, a torn drytop and helmet now more suited for a flower pot. He made the wise choice in not racing.

Now for Ray ... well by the time one reaches Lovers after paddling hard for about 5 minutes,  arms feel like rubber, you are a bit light-headed and probably short of breath. Ray got turned sideways and flipped in the last wave/hole and did the infamous wet exit. True to the spirit of the competition, he tried to get back in his boat while drifting down stream but was unable to do so ... and could not get to the "gong" without assistance to record a finish time.

As for the other DNFs ... there was an hour delay in the start time, it was pissing rain, not very warm ... probably lost interest and went home before racing.

Don't let this prevent you joining in on the fun next year.

Larry

For those who missed the event and are now just watching the ball go back and forth, it would be interesting to know why those who NDF'd actually did. I can see various reasons for a NDF.
- Not even started
- Over time limit (not likely here)
- Went off route
- Swam
- Injury
- Damage to equipment
- Disqualified based on some other specific rule.
- Conditions (weather or water level, etc) forcing to stop/cancel the rest of the participants.

A high level of injuries and/or damage as reason for DNF would go a long way to keep me as just watching next year as well...

Are you implying someone deserved some bad river karma Larry?

Nobody deserves bad river karma.
The River Gods work in weird and mysterious ways as they can taketh or giveth depending on their mood at any given time.

The times are posted ....
http://www.liquidlore.com/petrace/petrace.html
Now at the bottom of the list you will see 2 notable names with DNFs ... score a couple for the river gods and bad river karma.

Since there was no video coverage of the submarine manouver through Lovers,  translates into "where's the proof".

As for the photo #12 that Paul mentioned, not the most flattering pictures. Blame it on the poor lighting conditions.

Speaking of women...

Now, I don't want to imply that there was a degree of grumpiness coming from one of our members, maybe two even, but you should really check out pic number 12....

Haha. I didn't actually get first in the women's - that was a mistake on Phil's part. I could have, had I not gone so far up the eddy not to miss the ferry above railroad. Oh well. I concur that it was a fun day. Mike is making the video. Unfortunately, no one was around to film Larry's submarine ride. He had moved to one of the bridges to get an aerial view of the paddlers between railroad and lover's. He has a great shot of Larry paddling Railroad, though. This video is not about carnage!! I'm sure that Larry, for one, will find that hard to believe. He will have it finished in the next day or so.

hi

I followed your line, except I did the submarine move through Lovers, checking out the fish along the way through. Been there done that before.
Joanne has the raw footage.
I rolled up and saw you were about 200 metres downstream, 60 metres left to cross the finish line. I didn't see any upstream gates anywhere along the way. My guess is that you were really practicing for the ORR's Pumphouse Race at the end of May.

HUM! First of all Larry I wasn't even paddling to race ::), just to survive :o (by the way thanks for convincing me to run it a second time :)!). I stopped intop every eddy I could find just to stop and get my heart rate down to a near normal rate ;)! You did beat me though, good for you :D! Oh, you forgot to mention, by the way, that you did have the most interesting line of the day down Lovers :o, I found out later (I'll let you explain that one, in case Heather didn't get it on video, oh please, please, please Heather, tell me you got that on video!!!! 8)). Thanks for letting me warm up in you car before the race, were it not for that I probably wouldn't have raced at all. Well, this was the most fun I've had, well, in a long while, even more fun even that the Level Six Cup. My time, you don't want to know, but it was a least two minutes longer than yours, but as long as someone has a video of you going down Lovers, it's all good!

Cheers,

Paul ;D

Hi all

That was a fun time ...
Congrats to Joanne Tognarelli for placing first in the Womens division

I gave Paul a 2 minute lead ... given that he can be found at the Pumphouse practicing racing ... well Paul what happened?

Does anybody remember their times, I figure that is the simple way to find out how other CdBers did.
Mine was 7m24sec (short boat)
