ya i would say the Slave is a must do for any paddler.  its way better than the Ottawa.  but hey..keep it a secrete, the lack of line ups infront of world class big waves is awesome!

Thanks a lot for the info, appreciate it. It's good to hear Keith is still around. Too bad about the business, but he had a pretty good ride for several years, doing what he wanted.

The Slave looks to be an awesome river.  I can't believe the number of rapids (link from your site)

Hey hey,

Yes I heard about Keith,  hes still around.  The lodge went out of business though.  I would say the best way of getting a hold of him would be to contact the Fort Smith Paddling Club @ http://fskayak.webs.com/

And just go do the trip man.  There is a great local named John Blyth (you can find him on couchsurfing.org)  hes paddles every day and is an awesome guy.

The Slave is by far my favorite river so far.

I caught your misadventures on Boatwerks. Nice blog and an awesome roadtrip you're on.  Tough summer

I was wondering if you'd mind a question. While you were at the Slave did you ever come across/hear tell of one Keith Morrison, owner of the Slave Kayak Lodge?  Up until a few years ago he had a website, slavekayaklodge.com, but that domain has since disappeared.

He's an old kayaking buddy from Ottawa from about 15 years ago. We paddled together for a number of years until he headed north to start up the kayaking lodge in Fort Smith, where he apparently became a local paddling guru.  There might be 1 or 2 old-schoolers here who remember him (Mark?). At the time he paddled an unforgettable purple Topolino which literally looked and surfed like a jellybean.

I've often thought about looking him up for an excursion on the Slave, but his website at least seems to have disappeared.  Just curious if you'd heard the name is all. Thanks.

Hey guys!

For all you that didn't get the link I am doing a North America Road Trip this year.  I have had a chance to paddle some of the best rivers and waves in Canada after my quick recovery from yet another shoulder dislocation on the Petawawa. 

The highlight of my trip so far would have to be the month I spent on the Slave River.  Oh my.  For anyone who ever wants to do any paddling trip and does not know where to go....just go to the Slave.  My favorite river by far.  It has something for everyone from class 1 and 2 rapids and play waves too big fast waves for going big on and still a ton of rapids that are just waiting for first descents!

I am in Vancouver at the moment waiting for the stars and moon to a line to make Skookumchuck wave perfect before making the trip to the wave. 

So check out my blog for all the stories of the summer and keep checking it for Skook photos and some BC creeking stories.  And maybe the odd drinking and partying story!
