Hi

Yes ... at least for the majority of the paddlers in the club the Main Channel is OK. But Newcomers Day is really meant the welcome new members to the club and not to have lots of carnage on the Main channel especially for the beginners.

Therefore there is a poll lower down in the forum, just to get an indication of how many folks are more suited for the Middle Channel so those people will have enough support down the river.

Larry

Looks like we'll be doing the main channel for newcomers' day. We'll check it out this Saturday again anyway, but the low level (-1/-2) should make it quite friendly. Plus the water is already very warm.

Hi All CDBers new and old,

Newcomer's Day is our annual welcome to new paddlers in the club paddle down the Ottawa River, usually the Middle Channel (or the Main, depending on the river level and what the groups feels like running). It's the chance to welcome new members and past members returning to the fold. The more experienced paddlers will be there to suggest the best and safest lines and watch your back should you go for an unexpected swim.

We meet at the Eagleston Bus Park and Ride off HWY 417 at 8am to carpool and save the environment. Please bring along some cash to offset the cost of gasoline for your designated driver. Usually the more people we get in a vehicle the less the ride will cost.
You may also want to bring a light lunch or energy snacks when we stop and eat on the river shore.

Those of you who want to meet us directly at River Run should be there by 10AM.
Here are the directions to River Run:

Directions to RiverRun: (from their website: http://www.riverrunners.com/)
From Ottawa, Approximate driving time: 1.5 hours
- Travel west on Hwy 417
- Hwy 417 will become Hwy 17 just outside of Ottawa. Continue on this road
- Drive past Renfrew to the Storyland exit
- Turn right and travel to the Four Corners stop sign
- Proceed straight through, approx. 10 km and turn right at our sign on Kohlsmith Rd
- Continue through to stop sign which will be Foresters Falls Rd
- Kohlsmith Rd becomes Grant Settlement Rd on the other side of Foresters Falls Rd
- Proceed straight through onto Grants Settlement Rd and follow the River Run signs to the Resort

Apr?s-paddle festivities include a BBQ in Ottawa at Tibor Dej's House.
Significant others and friends are welcome to join us.
Bring your own drinks and meat/veggie for BBQing, perhaps a salad or dessert to share.
Bring a chair as well if you wish.

Some salads, condiments and desserts will be provided, by CdB.
Prizes to reward the day's highlights will be drawn as well...
The party starts at 6ishpm!

Follow the discusion on the Forum:

Here are the direction to the Apres- Party at Tibor's house:
Tibor for the after paddle party:

Hope to see you all there!
