The news of Larry's swim has gone world wide. It hit the press in the Cayman Islands this morning.

Hope to see you all at Beast Feast.

Don't forget the poutine pics, unrelated but still amazing!

Hey... In may 2007 (just after Palmerfest, where I learnt to roll a kayak), I swam the 'apetizer' rapid of the Tewkesbury section, and decided that I was better off walking back to the put-in...

There's no shame in swimming every once in a while.

But the incriminating photos will still find their way here once I get my card reader going... Ha!

hi all

Well I wondered how long it would take for the news to hit the forum ... and a sticky note as well, such an honour.
The sky's not falling, the sun still rose the next morning and BP oil is still spilling into the Gulf.

Yes it was advertised as a self rescue trip, just that I was not expecting to use the swim-your-boat-to-shore option.
Which is OK since most of the on-lookers were either laughing or cheering too much to be of any use anyways.
Thanks to Wendy for coming done to see if I was OK, and Louis for the beer at the end of the day. It's River Karma being paid forward.

As for my last swim ... Tewksberry section of the Jacque Cartier in 1993 ... yep I keep notes as well.

As for the new "play-boat", I will be working out the kinks over the summer. :)

Larry

Larry did drink beer, but was spared the booty part - as he was such a good sport about the whole event.
(I did have a nasty booty soaking in the bottom of my trunk...)

Now, Adam...
When I was your age, we used to pull on female's skirts.
Gee, you need to get your bearings straight, young man.

Ah, Larry 's got big shoulders and I'm sure he can take a bit of good hearted ribbing. 99.9% of the time it's us that swim and Larry's on the other end commenting on our techniques or lack thereof. At least by not rescuing him we spared him from having to drink booty beer...

Beware that there are only two groupes of paddlers:
Those that have swum,
and those that will.
they are not mutally exclusive.

Larry,

I want to apologize to you on behalf of all the CdB members who witnessed your unfortunate swim at Push Button and did nothing. Usually we would all be hurrying up to our boats to attempt to help, but... you did mention that it was a trip where paddlers were supposed to be apt at self-rescue...

To the delight of the peanut gallery, Larry attempted 7 times to roll back up, following one of his several surfing passes to Pushbutton today.
He finally self-rescued himself before the rescue team, Coast Guard and News chopper dispatched to the scene even arrived.

The day that Larry swam - July 20th, 2010, Father's day - will go down in history.

I was told that the club treasurer had secured proof of the incident and nothing would leak to the press.  ;)  ;)

Being a good sport, Larry was later seen laughing with the said gallery.
Now, for those who decided not to join us today, see what you missed?

My only regret today, was not having my glasses to fully appreciate this notorious event.
But we can always count on Larry for a great day on the river.

Note that there will be a ceremonial burning of a certain red kayak, Thursday evening at Whispers, around 21h00, following the inauguration of the Potvin-Gigault monument securing the Remic wave's eddy. We will have full press coverage and a public address.
All are welcome to share a pint with our local hero... by the fire.

Love, affection and kisses,
LD
