Any newcomers or others interested in doing some practice at Champlain tonite, early-ish?  I'm heading over around 5, have to leave by 6:30 or so.

BTW, thanks to CDB for an awesome welcome last weekend!

On that topic, to those patient souls who witnessed my swim-a-thon and held my boat grimacing as I stood upright and surveyed McKoy's rapid like Christopher Columbus  - moved my seat forward 1.5 inches, got me some booties, scrunched up into my knee braces, went to sunny Westboro beach, and ... BLAMMO - 10 straight rolls without a hitch.  I don't know if size matters, but fit certainly seems to.

Hope to see you 2-nite ... cheers   -kurt

Ok, I'll bring my sea-ish kayak! Make sure you watch this video beforehand:

They wait for a big wave to go over rocks--amazing timing!

Sea Kayaks Re: Champlain Thursday after work!

For the interest of Christian and any others with sea kayaks, Alfred and I will be there in sea kayaks for some wave action.  The level is such that I think we should be able to attain upriver on the Que side to the Bridge and cycle/run the middle channel, bounce, bounce, splash, splash...

Cheers,
John

I will most likely be there teaching a few things like rolls and strokes etc.. What time were you thinking of going?

Anyone, newcomers or otherwise, up for a bit of rolling practice after work this Thurs prior to the Saturday event?  I'd certainly appreciate solidifying things a bit myself before getting "worked" at the bottom of some thundering waterfall this weekend...

Indeed there is nothing left at Champlain, except for a rope... The Britannia level dropped by about 0.5 m, and that means that the level just below Bate Island dropped by close to 0.75 m. And the center is just current, there are no waves really.

Not going to Champlain.. passed by after work... Eddy is in if you can call it an eddy.. wave is alright i guess.. kinda like sewer when its big in the winter.. just shallow. Not worth getting out and wet for in my opinion but hey.. thats just me.  ;)

Anyone going tonight? The level is around 58.5, the eddy should be just in... And the weather should hold. I'll be there sometime around 18:30.

Well... I just biked over to Bate Island. As predicted, the eddy is gone. The waves are a lot smaller but still surfable if you don't mind walking every time.

Still, Thursdays are still a good time to go there to practice rolling, bracing and other techniques, or to run the middle waves. And of course there is free nachos at Whispers where weekend plans are usually discussed...
